So what's next now? Banning children from playing in neighbourhood? Or arresting children for crying? It seems Police in Texas have stopped crime completely, that's why they are now enforcing laws on children for keeping themselves getting paid.

I second you on that. Its ridiculous and actually a harassment on those girls. Instead of catching criminals, they are tormenting those little girls. Pathetic!!  Angry

Guys, you forgot something important. Shutting down illegal lemonade stands run by children is helping the war against drugs!  Roll Eyes

Do you have a license to play in the neighborhood? You might be spreading germs!

Now to be serious. This is really ridiculous and we should not be wasting the tax money on arresting little children. I'm pretty sure that there are other issues that need attending first.

Just another incident to prove how brave and courageous these police officers are in the United States.  Grin But still, In this case I believe that the police officers were merely following the orders which they received from their superiors. In my honest opinion, the state of Texas does not need $150 in license fee from these two little girls, to make the ends meet. Tax the adults as much as you want, but please leave the children alone.

It's so sad that it's almost funny. Illegal lemonade stand. It is as absurd as it sound Cheesy

Yes, it is absurd. But such incidents do happen, when you live under the police state. That said, most of my anger is directed towards the lowlife scum, who informed the police that "illegal" lemonade sales are going on in the neighborhood. Some say that it was their neighbor, but we don't know for sure, as the cops are refusing to reveal the identity of the informer.

The sisters plan to try again this weekend. Instead of selling their lemonade, they'll give it away for free and accept donations.

A loophole and a simple solution for a stupid law.

This is brilliant! It was predicted by (oYo) earlier this year, when cops were going after kids shovelling snow!

What's next? Is it going to be lemonade stands this summer? Am I supposed to feel privileged to have had an actual childhood, now?  Angry

Actually TECSHARE pointed out (later in that thread) that cops have already been going after lemonade stands (at least as far back as 2011).

Oh yeah. I remembered reading about it, but didn't realize that it was a response in the same thread. Guess I didn't search hard enough. Smiley

Hmm... I am sure that the lawmakers will soon notice this loophole and put and end to it by amending the rules and regulations. That said, the American lawmakers, judges and the cops are not lunatic everywhere. In some of the smaller towns and cities, they do permit the sale of lemonade by the kids. Check these links:

http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/2011/07/20/are-unlicensed-lemonade-stands-legal.html

Quote
Steve Crosier, director of food protection services at the Metro Nashville Public Health Department, said in an email that children younger than 16 are permitted to run a lemonade stand and sell baked goods at public events in Tennessee without a permit, provided they don’t do so more than three times a year.

And here is an example of the children-hating lowlife scum:

Quote
A 12-year-old boy in Dunedin, Florida, got a lesson in petty tyranny when his 61-year-old neighbor repeatedly badgered city officials to shut down the concession stand at which he sells cookies and lemonade. County police came to the neighborhood several times as a result, but appear to have stopped short of demanding the closure of the stand.

Completely agree with you. From time to time we are listening about shootouts in schools, colleges, malls. There must be hundreds of people planning same kind of thing everyday. And instead of making strategies to stop these kind of attacks, they are busy in catching lemonade selling children

Police in Overton, Texas put the brakes on an illegal lemonade stand run by two little miscreants...sure is good to see my tax dollars at work and I'll sleep better tonight knowing the streets of Overton are safer now. What a crock...

Quote
Police in Texas shut down a lemonade stand run by two little girls. They said it was illegal.

Andria and Zoey Green told ABC affiliate KLTV they were trying to raise about $100 for a Father's Day present. They wanted to take him to Splash Kingdom.

They had been selling lemonade and kettle corn for an hour - and made about $25 - when officers showed up and told them they need a $150 permit to sell their lemonade.

Texas House Bill 970, or the Texas Baker's Bill, does not allow the sale of food that needs time or temperature control to prevent it from spoiling. Since lemonade needs to be refrigerated to prevent bacteria growth, police said they needed an inspection from the health department and a permit to sell it.

"It is a lemonade stand, but they also have a permit that they are required to get," Overton Police Chief Clyde Carter said.

"I think that's ridiculous. I think they're 7 and 8, and they're just trying to make money for their own cause," said Sandi Evans, the girls' mother.

Ridiculous or not, Overton police said it's the law and they'll keep enforcing it.

"We have to follow by the state health guidelines," said Carter. "They have to have a permit if they're going to do the lemonade stands."

The sisters plan to try again this weekend. Instead of selling their lemonade, they'll give it away for free and accept donations.

Hahaha, still cracks me up everytime I look at it. There are people in this world that are so jobless and out of things to do, that they have to start and shut down lemonade stands, and these people are none other than cops and the government.
How interesting

They have not shot them?. How strange, they were violating the law clearly. In their faces i can see the evil and the years they have been imprisoned in the jail... Police in that country is increasingly absurd and ridiculous...

So now what? The girls would have to start giving Policemen bribes for keeping their business running. For sure, then they will be not again be harassed by Police, in fact they can also apply for Police protection, so that they can get their competitors (again some kids) wiped out from lemonade business  Cheesy

Lol.. sarcasm aside, you have to realize that the real problem is not the cops. Some elderly person is believed to have called in the cops, complaining about the unlicensed lemonade stand (which was a serious health hazard according to her) and the latter had no choice, but to follow the instructions. And how much they'll be able to pay in bribes, out of a total profit of $2 or $3?

In Louisiana, cash transactions for used goods is now "illegal"... and get how they try to justify it by using "security" as their reasoning:

Quote
Hardy says the bill is targeted at criminals who steal anything from copper to televisions, and sell them for a quick buck. Having a paper trail will make it easier for law enforcement.

“It’s a mechanism to be used so the police department has something to go on and have a lead,” explains Hardy.

Nowadays, the police officer is just someone who think he can do anything what he want because he has right to do it and he has the gun too. If the cop doesn't like you, you can't live peacefully. So, people begin to make cop like them with give them a gift or something that make the cop happy. If not, their business will be disturbed by the police.

I agree. The girls should now get the proper license and start en cashing on this. They are already become popular so should take advantage of it.

Yet there's so much violent crime on the streets, people getting murdered, raped, robbed. Their job is supposed to be to keep the streets safe for the public yet all they care about is pleasing their "superiors".

Running a lemonade stand (or cookies, cakes, whatever else) is a very educational experience for kids of that age. This teaches them about business and handling money. Skills they will actually need in the real world, they won't  get taught this in school either. That's very sad they can't even do that any more. Such an innocent things, as long as they have an adult supervising them and watching their backs of course.

Is it true that in Texas kids can get a criminal record for bunking off of school? That's what we've heard over here in the UK. Rumor has the law is very strict and the cops very tough on it.
