I agree. The girls should now get the proper license and start en cashing on this. They are already become popular so should take advantage of it.

I had already posted about this earlier, but don't think you had noticed it. A license costs as much as $50 per day, and it is quite unaffordable for these little children to get one. At the most, they will get $4 or $5 in profits from selling lemonade. And how they are supposed to pay $50 every day for the license? The authorities knew this fact, and they have intentionally kept the license fee high.

After I read the article again, I think the sisters need an adult to help them manage the business. What the sisters will do if a buyer has complain to them about their product. But yeah, the police was outrageous. Hope if they grow up, they won't be afraid to run a business again.

Yet there's so much violent crime on the streets, people getting murdered, raped, robbed. Their job is supposed to be to keep the streets safe for the public yet all they care about is pleasing their "superiors".

Running a lemonade stand (or cookies, cakes, whatever else) is a very educational experience for kids of that age. This teaches them about business and handling money. Skills they will actually need in the real world, they won't  get taught this in school either. That's very sad they can't even do that any more. Such an innocent things, as long as they have an adult supervising them and watching their backs of course.

Is it true that in Texas kids can get a criminal record for bunking off of school? That's what we've heard over here in the UK. Rumor has the law is very strict and the cops very tough on it.

The elite class doesn't want you running your own business, they want you working for them instead.

Have you ever heard of the Los Zetas drug cartel? They are one of the most brutal drug cartels in Mexico, and recently they have been trying to expand their area of operation to include South Texas. Now, imagine that you are a policeman in the state of Texas. You have to chose between two tasks. Task 1 is to arrest 2 Los Zetas drug smugglers (who might be armed) near the Mexican border. The other task is to arrest two little girls, who are running an illegal lemonade stand. Which one would you select?

Quote
The enforcement of the state’s truancy laws, which were strengthened substantially in 2003, have led to a range of abuses, according to a complaint filed Wednesday with the U.S. Department of Justice:

Students have been taken out of school in handcuffs, held in jail for days at a time, and fines have totaled more than $1,000 for students who miss more than 10 days of school.
The students who are hauled into court to face truancy or lateness charges are not provided with legal counsel. The only lawyers in the courtroom are the judge and a member of the district attorney’s office, unless the student’s family can afford their own representation.
Defendants are charged court fees even if they prevail in fighting the accusations, discouraging people from exercising their right to a full hearing.

http://www.alternet.org/texas-truancy

Quote
In Texas, truancy is a Class C misdemeanor that carries a possible $500 fine and the threat of jail time if fines go unpaid when a child turns 17...

...Currently, the Texas legislature is discussing a bill that could decriminalize truancy.

But with the state’s graduation rate at 88 percent, one of the highest in the nation, some argue putting kids through the criminal justice system means Texas is doing something right.

"However, city authorities admitted that they wouldn't need a permit to give away their lemonade and ask for donations, which the pair are now considering."
And that is what they need to do. If I lived there I'd buy some and give them a $20.

The law is quite weird if you ask me.
Quote
It does not allow the sale of food that needs time or temperature control to prevent it from spoiling. Since lemonade needs to be refrigerated to prevent bacteria growth, police said they needed an inspection from the health department and a permit to sell it.
So it doesn't allow selling the food, but it allows donating it? Exactly what does this law accomplish? Sold lemonade is more susceptible to bacteria growth than donated lemonade?  Cheesy

It sure is. I don't think that they would have closed it down either, especially if the price and taste were right.

I am a little bit confused about this. They would still need an inspection from the health department, to get the permission to give away the lemonade, right? And the old grumpy neighbor, who complained against them in the first place is still there. What will happen if he creates issues again?

Police in Overton, Texas put the brakes on an illegal lemonade stand run by two little miscreants...sure is good to see my tax dollars at work and I'll sleep better tonight knowing the streets of Overton are safer now. What a crock...

Quote
Police in Texas shut down a lemonade stand run by two little girls. They said it was illegal.

Andria and Zoey Green told ABC affiliate KLTV they were trying to raise about $100 for a Father's Day present. They wanted to take him to Splash Kingdom.

They had been selling lemonade and kettle corn for an hour - and made about $25 - when officers showed up and told them they need a $150 permit to sell their lemonade.

Texas House Bill 970, or the Texas Baker's Bill, does not allow the sale of food that needs time or temperature control to prevent it from spoiling. Since lemonade needs to be refrigerated to prevent bacteria growth, police said they needed an inspection from the health department and a permit to sell it.

"It is a lemonade stand, but they also have a permit that they are required to get," Overton Police Chief Clyde Carter said.

"I think that's ridiculous. I think they're 7 and 8, and they're just trying to make money for their own cause," said Sandi Evans, the girls' mother.

Ridiculous or not, Overton police said it's the law and they'll keep enforcing it.

"We have to follow by the state health guidelines," said Carter. "They have to have a permit if they're going to do the lemonade stands."

The sisters plan to try again this weekend. Instead of selling their lemonade, they'll give it away for free and accept donations.

Meanwhile, Police Chief Clyde Carter said Overton police are just following the law: "We have to follow by the state health guidelines. They have to have a permit if they're going to do the lemonade stands."

Other states have similar laws.

In 2011 a group of kids who set up a lemonade stand outside the Congressional Country Club in Montgomery County, Maryland, were fined $500 for not having a vendor's permit.

Not a big thing. This type of incidents are happening everywhere. And it will be a great learning lesson for those girls, I mean in a positive way. They will get to know the real-world-deal sooner than most people do.

I'm all for the law being enforced evenly, but at some point common sense and reason must be used.

How this incident is going to be a positive lesson for these girls? I have doubts about it. They tried to be self-sufficient, by setting up a small business venture. The cops turned up and shut it down. And what sort of lesson will they learn from it? According to the rules and regulations, they have no right to become self-sufficient, and should take loans from banks to survive, and thereby live the rest of their lives in debt bondage.

Just another incident to prove how brave and courageous these police officers are in the United States.  Grin But still, In this case I believe that the police officers were merely following the orders which they received from their superiors. In my honest opinion, the state of Texas does not need $150 in license fee from these two little girls, to make the ends meet. Tax the adults as much as you want, but please leave the children alone.

Aw, these two little girls are so cute. The girls made a smart move by offering free lemonade and accepting donations instead. The media has already highlighted this and I think they will receive a pretty substantial amount now. Young entrepreneurs.
