The title is quite misleading. He wasn't arrested for tweeting about Bitcoin but rather for providing information that assists and promotes terror. Had he simply tweeted about BTC then he wouldn't be facing any criminal charges. He was arrested for mentioning ISIS and providing information that was useful to them.

Though you know how this will turn out for bitcoin. He helped IS with Bitcoins that means, for the eyes of non-bitcoiners, that bitcoin is bad and a tool to support terrorism.

I guess OP wanted to point out that again bitcoin was blamed for helping terrorists, even though this connection is far fetched, i mean where are the headlines about western union helping scammers all over the world, but you know probably that journalists love these kind of stories and bitcoin will be blamed for sure. Or get a damaged reputation for some non bitcoiners.

Bitcoin wasn't much relevent in his arrest. He was arrested mainly for supporting the ISIS, and acting as a recruiter for the same terrorist group. Other than a few random tweets about Bitcoin, the accused hasn't used the Bitcoin technology in any way, to help the Islamic State terrorists. But then, the media witchdoctors can spin any story as per their liking...

Exactly this. We are not discussing how poor bitcoin boy was unjustly arrested for tweeting how bitcoin are awesome here. This discussion is about not so bright supporter of jihad.
If you tweet about how to help murderers, there is no explanation for your action. I agree that tweeting is not some huge crime by itself but kid should be punished accordingly imo.

Remember that he has entered in to a plea bargain. That means that he will be out in less than 6-7 years time. This is a relatively light sentence, for acting as recruiter for the ISIS. The ISIS scum has killed some 300,000 people in the last 2 years, and they have almost exterminated entire communities of minorities in the area under their control.

It's both parts to blame. People because they are ignorant and will link BTC with ISIS without looking at the details, and OP playing the bitcoiner victim card when it is clearly a farfetched connection he's making, when that guy is clearly supporting ISIS, be it with fiat or with BTC. But BTC is more exotic and thats why its going to get all the bad press.

Britain, Ireland, Norway, Iceland and New Zealand, officers are unarmed when they are on patrol. Police are only equipped with firearms in special circumstances. It's a strategy that seems to work surprisingly well for these countries. Police officers there have saved lives because they were unable to shoot.

Countries such as Ireland, Iceland, NZL, and Norway are in general peaceful countries, and it will be OK, even if the cops are not armed. But you can't apply the same logic in the United States, and say that policemen patrolling high crime areas there should go unarmed.

And at least in the case of Norway, it didn't worked out that well. Anders Behring Breivik was able to massacre close to 100 people, as the cops who were present were not armed. If some one had a fire-arm with him, then Breivik would have been taken out before killing more than 10 people.

I think most people misunderstand how many shootings there are just because the cop has a gun with him. When cops have a problem with a very bad guy they call out swat teams with military weapons. The average flatfoot doesn't need a gun all the time. If he has one on him he's just as likely to kill an innocent bystander or unarmed suspect as he is a justified shooting. You pulled an extreme example but look at the annual numbers from a Washington Post article.

Quote
“I was rather surprised to find there are no statistics,” Fisher said. “The answer to me is pretty obvious: the government just doesn’t want us to know how many people are shot by the police every year.”

In 2011, Fisher scoured the Internet several times a day every day, compiling a database of every officer-involved shooting he could find. Ultimately, he tracked 1,146 shootings by police officers, 607 of them fatal shootings.

“I was surprised at how many shootings, a reasonable person would conclude, were unnecessary,” Fisher said.

The teen is lucky that he wasn't facilitating a website for the purpose of buying and selling drugs. Rumor has it he would've gotten life sans zero chance of parole if were the case.

Silk Road: Very, very, very bad!
Recruiting to kill people: Not as bad.
Being rogue bankers: Slap, slap!
Daddy buys and sells bitcoins: Civil forfeiture, and steal little girl's $600 from her now smashed piggy bank.
Use a third-party payment processor as an exchange to launder tens of millions of dollars of bitcoins: Nary a periodical, bitcoin-themed or otherwise, has yet to publish about the ruse that started three years earlier.

Exactly this. We have seen this kind of bitcoin news way too often so that we know very sure how journalists will twist the story. You know... bitcoin and terrorism is a really nice headline. There are enough fiends of bitcoin that would welcome such news. And i mean even politicians that, maybe were lobbied, to defend bitcoin.

I don't see any sensationalism or spin in the headline.  I think it's more likely that an average reader may spin it themselves to align with other legitimately sensationalist articles they may have read or heard of in the past.  That doesn't mean there's anything here to suggest that BTC is inherently related to terrorism in any way.

Terrorism is what I feel when a cop stops me for speeding and walks up to my car with his hand on his gun. Every time this happens I cross my fingers that he hasn't had a bad day and decides to shoot me instead of giving me a ticket.

That's not terrorism. You were pulled over so many time, yet you still remain in one piece. Plus you admitted yourself that you were speeding. Thank America that you only got some tickets. If ISIS pulls you over for speeding, they will cut off your hands. Actually they will not pull you over. They will just spray bullets to your car and you and your car will be looked like swiss cheese. Wach PBS documentary from below link and you will see.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/rise-of-isis/

LOL. This ticket was issued to a fellow ISIS member. I don't think this is what Shia muslims get.
For Shia, it's more likely

As far as i can tell, thread doesn't provide correct and full info on what happened, and the tweet about bitcoin wasn't the reason why he is under arrest.
As per CNN video, the 17yo kid was recruiting for ISIS, arranged for another 18yo to travel to Syria and join ISIS and provided information to them how to use bitcoin as secure payments in supporting
terrorist activity.
In my opinion, the dude should be facing a death penalty, and not only up to 15 years behind bars.

I second that opinion. The guy should be facing the death penalty. He supported some schizophrenic maniacs who murder hundreds, if not thousands of innocent people every day. He should be considered as an active member of the ISIS, and the punishment should be given according to it. But it seems that, since he entered in to a plea bargain, he will be out in 6 or 7 years.

And still, there will be idiots here who think that Ross Ullbricht is a bigger criminal than this ISIS sympathizer.
