The title is quite misleading. He wasn't arrested for tweeting about Bitcoin but rather for providing information that assists and promotes terror. Had he simply tweeted about BTC then he wouldn't be facing any criminal charges. He was arrested for mentioning ISIS and providing information that was useful to them.

I guess OP wanted to point out that again bitcoin was blamed for helping terrorists, even though this connection is far fetched, i mean where are the headlines about western union helping scammers all over the world, but you know probably that journalists love these kind of stories and bitcoin will be blamed for sure. Or get a damaged reputation for some non bitcoiners.

Exactly this. We have seen this kind of bitcoin news way too often so that we know very sure how journalists will twist the story. You know... bitcoin and terrorism is a really nice headline. There are enough fiends of bitcoin that would welcome such news. And i mean even politicians that, maybe were lobbied, to defend bitcoin.

Remember that he has entered in to a plea bargain. That means that he will be out in less than 6-7 years time. This is a relatively light sentence, for acting as recruiter for the ISIS. The ISIS scum has killed some 300,000 people in the last 2 years, and they have almost exterminated entire communities of minorities in the area under their control.

It's both parts to blame. People because they are ignorant and will link BTC with ISIS without looking at the details, and OP playing the bitcoiner victim card when it is clearly a farfetched connection he's making, when that guy is clearly supporting ISIS, be it with fiat or with BTC. But BTC is more exotic and thats why its going to get all the bad press.

I think most people misunderstand how many shootings there are just because the cop has a gun with him. When cops have a problem with a very bad guy they call out swat teams with military weapons. The average flatfoot doesn't need a gun all the time. If he has one on him he's just as likely to kill an innocent bystander or unarmed suspect as he is a justified shooting. I don't see any sensationalism or spin in the headline.  I think it's more likely that an average reader may spin it themselves to align with other legitimately sensationalist articles they may have read or heard of in the past.  That doesn't mean there's anything here to suggest that BTC is inherently related to terrorism in any way.

As far as i can tell, thread doesn't provide correct and full info on what happened, and the tweet about bitcoin wasn't the reason why he is under arrest.
As per CNN video, the 17yo kid was recruiting for ISIS, arranged for another 18yo to travel to Syria and join ISIS and provided information to them how to use bitcoin as secure payments in supporting
terrorist activity.
In my opinion, the dude should be facing a death penalty, and not only up to 15 years behind bars.

I second that opinion. The guy should be facing the death penalty. He supported some schizophrenic maniacs who murder hundreds, if not thousands of innocent people every day. He should be considered as an active member of the ISIS, and the punishment should be given according to it. But it seems that, since he entered in to a plea bargain, he will be out in 6 or 7 years.

And still, there will be idiots here who think that Ross Ullbricht is a bigger criminal than this ISIS sympathizer.
