Cashed out my bitcoins a few years ago (a little too early, oh well) and I'm looking at getting back into it. I'm more interested in Alt-coins etc, since there seems to be a few problems with BTC imo.

I was just looking for a little advice on good coins to be watching. I'm looking for stuff with real innovation and not just one of the 100s of identical coins I've seen.

After a fair bit of reading, I still haven't found anything I feel I can fully go behind. I'm not massively interested in spreading my bets and using exchanges to profit, I'd just like a coin that, after a little research, I feel that I could invest in. I'm happy to research, so if anyone has any links to any information, I'm happy to have a read. If you just want to recommend your coin, tell me why it's good and different please.

I'm not looking for a cheat sheet, just a bit of friendly advice.

Cheers

I'm sorry but there is no alt-coin that can promise you anything.. looking at the charts its like a pump and dump action in the altcoin world.. trust your instincts on what coin that you seem comfortable to invest with..

Every thread like this gets filled with replies from people trying to promote whatever coin they are bag holding. It's very rare you will get any honest advice because most people have their own agenda, and in some cases their agenda will involve making money out of you.

waterpile, and bit tired just gave you the only advice worth reading. NXT has a pretty big presence on this form, so you will get a lot of their shills coming soon calling me an idiot, while trashing their competitors XRP and BTS, while providing links to all of their wonderful Assets that have absolutely no volume. This place is often regarded as the trash bin of the forum, so keep that in mind and HAVE FUN!  Wink

been in crypto for awhile... honestly do your own homework as anyone promoting a coin is a bag holder.... promising coins on my radar are nxt, ethereum, and bitshares... always check with community size when researching.... and of course install the wallet clients to compare. my 2 bits

Just as my fellow poster above, I sarcastically recommend you install anything and everything available on the Internet.

You would be safest buying btc and holding.

But if you want to play with altcoins ... fine. Follow the pump&dumps.  Its a 24 hour a day job and its really easy to get caught holding the bag. There are a few long term investments that might work out for you but most everything is just pumping and dumping these days. Whales and pump groups set up these pumps. Outsiders get screwed. If you are really good with your timing you might make a buck.

Bitcoin is still the best. If you want to buy some altcoins, you must buy bitcoin first! It is still the bear market in crypto, allcoins are following the trend of bitcoin. But recently some altcoins are pumped up crazily. I advise you do your own recearsh before making decision. One question, do you want to invest in altcoins for the long term or just for the short profit? You should keep in mind that bitcoin or altcoins' price is volatile and you should be able to bear the short term loss. As a long term investor, we know the bear maket will be over soon as the bitcoin adoption rate is increasing and its ecosystment is improving. I hope you share the same idea with me!

I have been looking at coins associated with SuperNet (NXT, Vericoin, BTCD). I currently don't have any holdings in NXT however I recently bought a good stash of VRC and BTCD. I also recommend NEM platform, which is led by a group of ridiculously talented developers along with an active community. Look into SuperNet/NEM because that is where the innovation is imho. NXT, XEM and VRC are selling for peanuts right now. BTCD is relatively cheap too. I personally put my BTC's toward innovative projects.

EDIT: Hold BTC too.

Beside Btc itsfelf, the coins that will be part of the SuperNet project are probably the safest long-term bet as long as one can dare using the word "safe" in cryptoworld  Cheesy

That was a sweet move, CK, pre-emptive attack.  Cheesy
NXT is frigging great, tbh, but XRP and BTS aren't actually competitors to NXT: Ripple isn't even a crypto-currency by most definitions, but is a very useful transfer mechanism, and BTS are concentrating on building DAC/DAO applications in a very different way to NXT.

NXT is a completely open system which empowers crypto-users, allowing people to launch their own projects based on NXT with few restrictions. CK may like to sneer at NXT assets, but every asset represents someones pet project, and some assets are performing very well. Some aren't, but that's only to be expected. Most start-up businesses fail in any case, particularly in a Wild West market like crypto, but NXT-based projects and their associated assets seem to be doing well on the whole.

Steering back on-topic: Put a portfolio together: mostly BTC, and a selection out of the top 10 alts.
If you have any belief in the ideals of crypto (decentralisation, open source, anonymity.....) choose LTC, NXT, Doge, maybe DASH.
If you're happier with more corporate, centralised projects, go for XRP, BTS, MaidSafe.

For a truly solid long term investment, though.....I'd choose some '80s classic bikes: early Suzuki GSX-R and the original M Katanas are gonna explode in price soon.
British 70's cars are also looking very good: Jaguar, LandRover/RangeRover, even Lotus are all appreciating nicely.

if you want something promising enough that you can invest and "fully go behind." the only option is bitcoin that you have left behind.
this is a good time in the bitcoin price for you to get back in.
and as far as altcoin, if you want something promising you are not going to find it anywhere. but if you want to profit, a lot of coins like litecoin are coming back from the dead and giving good profits.

This looks more like a honeypot thread to attract attention for certain coins.

IMO litecoin(LTC) seems a good investment at current prices becuase litecoin mining reward will halve in next few months that will control supply of LTC and possibly increase price of LTC

Betting on esports with crypto's and steam items has never been easier.

Since you're asking for innovative features, NXT has the biggest set of them - you can get a quick overview on the NXT Wikipedia article.

NXT has a pretty big presence on this form, so you will get a lot of their shills coming soon calling me an idiot, while trashing their competitors XRP and BTS, while providing links to all of their wonderful Assets that have absolutely no volume.

So true! But you are an idiot and XRP and BTS suck... let me provide a link to this wonderful asset paying dividends made from the nxt-to-the-moon game...  Kiss
