Hey guys,
I would like to ask if it is possible to add a simple forum function "lock the account" for xx days but without ask the intervention of an admin. I thought that this function would be really useful if someone wants to lock his account temporary - vacation, hiatus, etc... ( also for a security reason).

What do you think ?

This is a good option but there must be a secret password or 2FA for locking account.

Hmm .. 2FA, it will be really good but in this thread I want to discuss (more) for the lock/block question and not for the unlock question. However thanks for your opinion.

If you have a strong password and you logged out from the forum before you go on a holiday, no one can access the account anyway. There is no need to actively lock it. It then sprouts problems when members accidentally lock their account and need admin to unlock them.

I am not really sure about the 'bold part' , but maybe I am only more worried about this thing. The lock function it will work only with the use of the actual password (and maybe 2 requests of that pwd before the complete lock).

2FA would be the best solution, considered that admin aren't so active (because they have many works to do). It would be great if the google autenthicator function will be inserted into the "Forum Profile Information"

You could give it to an escrow who would change the password for you and would not allow you to regain access to the account for a certain amount of time

Actually, that's what I meant! For locking account, there must be a sort of password and/or 2FA to prevent hackers from locking accounts.

I don't think this is a good idea. If escrow is away when the time is up, then we will have to wait for him/her and also if something happens to escrow, account escrow holds will also be locked forever unless admin resets password. An automatic system is better.

Maybe something like you get an email everytime you logging to your account or anyone who logs into your account you get the email, in the email there should be an option to lock the account immediately.

There is that exact same risk whenever you have any kind of long term deal involving escrow.

You can always setup a wait time for example 10 days and notify the user by email that the account will be locked and click a link to prevent that lock. You can also setup a signed message system but that would require the user to have a verifiable permanent address.
