I am not from Russia, but I think that most of the Russians trade with their Bitcoins using BTC-e. They have direct deposit/withdrawal agreements with various banks in Russia, Ukraine, and the other former-USSR nations. But recently the BTC-e website was banned in Russia. Many of the users are now accessing it via VPN.  Angry

Great work, just bookmarked your site. Will be good to read some bitcoin news that isn't solely focused (biased) towards the US (and European) developments.

Guys, thanks for your support, that's really appreciated.
Let's just please keep all politics aside, we have 25% of Ukrainian traffic at our main website and we are in good relations with BF Ukraine and their community reps.
We've just launched the website but we plan to fill it more and more, any suggestions are welcome.

Good luck.

Are there any interesting Bitcoin businesses/startups/projects in Russia (apart from you guys).

Where do most Russian Bitcoiners buy their Bitcoin from?

Sure but unfortunately your business can't deal with cryptocurrency officially so business owners either prefer to leave or to work semi-underground.
Most use BTC-E or local exchanges like EXMO, localbitcoins or individual p2p exchangers, there's really no problem here to buy bitcoins. Our team was the first in the country to have a Lamassu ATM back in 2014 http://www.newsbtc.com/2014/04/23/coinspot-brings-bitcoin-atm-contentious-russia/ but we had to sell it as we had no possibility to operate it here.
One of the reasons we started this is that information from here often turns to be misrepresented or wrongly interpreted by large media like Coindesk and others. We also plan to cover local related fintech area and any monetary activities or decentralized technologies.
Twitter also coming soon.

Thanks again.

Congratulations on your site. It does provide an opprtunity for those of us outside of Russia to lean about the Russian bitcoin scene and in particular the whole issue regarding the legal status of Bitcoin and other crypto - currencies in Russia.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

I think, EXMO is a global exchange similar to BTC-e. Is it located in Russia ?

In 2012, I did a whois search on BTC-E.com and go an address near Moscow. It is now hidden behind a privacy service. Their server has always been on Moscow time.

Is it possible to register Bitcoin-based ventures, such as exchanges and investment sites in Russia, as I have heard that there is a de facto ban on Bitcoins there? Also, are the Russian banks ready to co-operate with such ventures? In countries such as India, the local banks refuse to open bank accounts for Bitcoin exchanges.

Why do you think the Russian government unnofficially ban Bitcoin? Has there been any official communication from them about this?

I have a theory that most non-western countries are hesitant to allow Bitcoin, due to the strong Western influence in the developers side of the protocol. {That said... Wladimir is a Russian ..right?}

Most people from the outside seem to think, that Russia wants to have 100% control of the currency being used in their country, and for that reason they are opposed to using it.  Huh

Do you think the Russians will be left behind, when Bitcoin goes mainstream?

Government is so busy in corruption and politics that they may rarely get an attention by bitcoin . Think of the last time there was a news of bitcoin in realtimeworld . I have not seen any news of it in TVs , at least its not in India .

Go ask Crimeans about how their land was 'taken' by Russia. They will laugh at you, at best.

If people support what was done to them, then it was right. It's a simple principle.

PS. The thread is derailed, thank TKeenan, lol.
