Haha, I don't think it works quite like that, but if it did, I would be all for it.

Whoever mines the block which ends up containing your transaction will get its fee.

Bitcoin Conference 2012 in London is one reason, I believe.

Perhaps they are trying to pop up the price so much as to pay for the Romney tax return 1 BTC? Smiley

More people using Bitcoin, more trades/exchanges... Wink

No, I believe the number of bitcoin nodes has been on a steady decline for some time now. Alt-clients offer more convenience for casual users, and they have been getting increasingly better.

The sudden spike is likely due people wanting to tinker with the new release.

Could be wrong though.
