This is a very interesting question. And an even more interesting is: Are Satoshi Nakamotos' 1 million bitcoins lost or not? This could determine the future of Bitcoin...

I know it is a tricky question. What do you think, how many Bitcoins are lost forever and are 'out of the network' by lost private keys?
This is bad because theres a lot of people have been hacked their account just gving private key. Dont give to anyone your private key. Sad

When bitcoin first emerged i bought some into my bitcoin core wallet, I later formatted my laptop and lost access to the bitcoins in my wallet and i am not going to get back all those lost bitcoins in that wallet.

These results reach or impossible to calculate. As you can see the number of bitcoin losses, if no one knows the actual number of users even. It's impossible.

I think there are a few of them. Lots of ppl used faucets to gain a few, the they stoped because they where "hard" to make and forgot their passwords. So there could be a nice sun of btc lost there.

A few said it before: no one knows.

I think that 20 % could be possible.

1. In the beginning the coins were pretty worthless, so no one cared about storing them correctly

2. A lot of people (like myself) often lose a key or a stick gets damaged, there are for sure also some lost
   paper wallets.

3. In the future the number will of course grow, because there will be more transactions and more
people involved in the business. More people more mistakes and losses.

That's what I thought as well.  I don't know how many are gone forever, but, I can assure you that at least .5 BTC is.  My best friends mom lost hers (misplaced her private key).

My guess is that every day people loose bitcoins. And the amount of lost bitcoins is about 1.000.000 btc in total
