One thing to keep in mind while researching this subject is that many of the top wallets are cold storage addresses controlled by exchanges.

I think Cryptsy might hold the record for controlling the largest number of top wallets.

Bittrex gives a distribution page of the top 50 balances for each coin held on the exchange. It probably doesn't include their own cold wallets though. You could probably add up all the balances to work out how much was stored on Bittrex in cold storage and look for a rich list wallet holding roughly that amount. I don't think Cryptsy gives out the same information as Bittrex, so it's no good for working out which top wallets are Cryptsy's.

By examining the tops wallets, I've found there are key characteristics that help identify whether the owner is individual or corporate.

Here's an interesting post I found on Tumblr: http://cryptocuttlefish.tumblr.com/post/85867526266/the-largest-zetacoin-wallet-is-cryptsys-cold

NEM richlist: http://blockexplore.in/search/richlist/

Actually the richest accounts are funds for future developments, marketing and similar activities.

Here's Qora's rich list:

http://qora.co.in/?top=100

The top addresses probably belong to Poloniex and Bter.

Blockr.io also has rich lists in addition to block explorers for Litecoin, Digitalcoin, Quark, Peercoin, and Megacoin:

http://blockr.io/

There's even one for testnet bitcoins:

http://tbtc.blockr.io/trivia/address

To see a list of the top addresses for any coin listed, click on the "Address trivia" link under the "Trivia" heading.

thank you all there are some good explorers.

An interesting new idea i found is using google trends for the popularity of a coin as a fourth source for popularity
(other popularity indicators are facebook, twitter, and forum posts)
