I have just received my S5. I have two PSUs from my old 50GH/s BFL units which output 13V at 31A. Can these be used safely with the S5?

What kind of PSU is this?  Does it say how many Watt?

S5 consume about 590W at the wall.

I have 2 PSUs which are about 400W (13V x 31A) each (One for each side of the S5), making 800W in total. Here is a picture of them attached (but not plugged in):

What an interesting way to re-purpose some used BFL gear. You might find that your "at the wall" figure for power usage is higher than expected due to the nature of the BFL power supplies. They look like monstrous "power bricks" which are usually more like 12V at 5Amps. Smallish power bricks aren't usually too efficient. but you didn't have buy a power supply.

You might also find the S5 fan spins a bit faster, and is a bit louder than the other ones.

Best of luck with your unique BFL/Antminer.

maybe they will work for you. (they should be okay)  your connection is correct as pictured. do  not cross two bricks together!!!!   you have one brick on each board.

if you feel they do not work well.  I have more then a few psu's sitting idle.  I am in NJ zip 07731.

One other small nit. You don't want the S5 to draw air that's already been warmed up by one of the BFL power supplies, and then exhausting even warmer air into the 2nd BFL PSU. You'll want the PSU's off to the sides of the S5.

Just something to consider.

I'm thinking he positioned them there just to get in a picture.   But you are very right you would not want to put one of those PSU's obstructing fan intake, and also adding hot air to the mix.

No it will not be enough.  First it needs to be able to provide: Power Consumption: 590 W (at the wall) .  600 watt's is just to close to it (granted you could underclock)

Second with 600 watt I'm betting it does not have 4 seperate pci-e cables.  You need to get one with 4 cables not 2 cables with 2 adapters.  For this I'm going to guess it has to be a bigger PSU.

Let us know the model as I always could be guessing wrong.  But I think you will need a different PSU then you mention.

if you can get the gui to work you can underclock the s-5 to freq 275  .  your psu might work at that freq ..  you get about 810-850 gh
