the correct thing is BCT, just break down bitcointalk into syllables and use the first letter from each syllable, BitCooinTalk

I normally see it abbreviated as "BCT" although I have seen it abbreviated as both.  Personally I prefer "BCT" myself.

I would call this 'BCT' because Bitcoin was abbreviated by satoshi as 'BC' since 2010:
That's the right way to do it as riX says.  The software can generate a new bitcoin address whenever you need one for each payment.  "Please send X bc to [single-use bitcoin address] to complete your order"  When the server receives that amount to the bitcoin address, that could trigger it to automatically fulfil the order or e-mail the shop owner.

Adding command line support is a high priority.  It's just a matter of getting the time to code it.
Some very old members still keep their signature's bitcoin address as BC (like laszlo, the bitcoin pizza guy, link to profile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=143)
Also I take the first letter of 'talk', i.e. 'T'
So the complete abbreviation is 'BCT'.

I hoped there would be a voting option in this section, but apparently not to us mere mortal.

There is a voting option. You can either add a poll to an existing thread by clicking the "add poll" link on the bottom right hand corner of the thread or create a new thread with a poll by clicking the "post new poll" option rather than the "new topic" option when first creating a thread.

I must have been blind, drunk, unconscious, dead or having some other problem, but I really looked for a poll option, and I made polls before, but couldn't find one.

This creates another question: As I recall it, the forum were on different places before it found its home at bitcointalk.org, one of these places being "bitcoin.org".

A) Is this correct?
B) If yes, why on the friggin' earth was "talk" added to the URL and not "forum"? We do not "talk" here, we write on a forum.

A. Nope. The old forum was at http://bitcoin.sourceforge.net/boards/index.php (reference: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5.msg28#msg28, a post by satoshi) (though it can't be reached now)
B. This is maybe the action of writing on a forum is equivalent to talk in Japanese (satoshi claimed to be a Japanese, so he may mixup the meaning of talk and writing on the forum). Or maybe the domain 'bitcointalk.org' is 1 letter shorter than 'bitcoinforum. org' Smiley

Ok, my recall was that it was sourceforge > bitcoin.org > bitcointalk.org. But no...?

Also about the question of "talk", "board" or "forum", the second link in your post reads "Topic: Welcome to the new Bitcoin forum!"

He was aware of that he created a forum but called it something else. At the time, were any other forums called "talk" instead of forum or board?

Perhaps not the biggest mysteries in the history of Bitcoin or Satoshi, but still...  Grin

"Forum", not "talk".

Ok, my recall was that it was sourceforge > bitcoin.org > bitcointalk.org.

You are correct. There was briefly a small forum on SourceForge, but it was deleted after this forum was created at bitcoin.org/smf. Then it was moved to forum.bitcoin.org, then bitcointalk.org. Satoshi never typed "bitcointalk.org" -- if that appears anywhere in his posts, that's due to an automatic substitution of new links for old ones. The name was invented by Jeff Garzik. Ending the names of forums in "talk" is somewhat traditional.

I say BCT, for the syllables. Bit Coin Talk.
I've seen people using BTCT. Bitcoin original abbreviation, Talk.
I've never seen BTT used, except in the context of Bump To Top (whatever topic it's a reply to).

I really don't get how people can abbreviate BitcoinTalk to BCT. It's Bitcoin + Talk so, logically, it would be BTC (Bitcoin's abbreviation) + T, which equals BTCT.

I prefer and have used BCT as it is the most obvious abbreviation or just type out the entire forum name to make sure there is no confusion.

I always see our members are using BCT and it looks also nice to represent BC as Bitcoin and T as a talk so, BTC as a Bitcoin Talk. However you can edit and create a poll to see how many of our members prefer BTT or BTC, that would be really fun, looking forward to your poll Smiley

I always used BCT, didnt read it somewhere but it was the abbreviation that made the most sense. I dont even know how someone could come up with BTT? Doesnt make much sense to me to abbreviate it that way. I think abbreviations are created another way than BTT.

Though its good too know what BTT means when i should read it somewhere.

Please ALWAYS contact me through bitcointalk pm before sending someone coins.

I call it the forums or bitcointalk...never thought any of the abbreviations looked right.

Same here. If I'm in some super hurry to post something I'll slightly abbreviate it to BTCtalk, but that's about as far as I go.
