UK authorities arrest 15-year-old girl on suspicion of joining ISIS

A 15-year-old girl was arrested by British police Thursday on suspicion of plotting to join the Islamic State.

Authorities said the girl, who was arrested Thursday morning in east London, was placed in custody at a central London police station as she awaits further questioning.

The announcement of Thursday's arrest comes the same day British police charged a 26-year-old woman with being a member of ISIS and inciting terrorism on social media, according to Reuters.

The woman, who has not been named, was arrested by counter-terrorism officers at London's Heathrow Airport in February after arriving on a flight from Turkey. She has been charged with publishing messages on Twitter in October 2014, encouraging acts of terrorism, and being a member of the terrorist organization.

Authorities in the UK remain on high alert following estimates by intelligence officials that hundreds of British citizens have joined the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Earlier this year, three British schoolgirls, Shamima Begum and Amira Abase, both 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16, fled their east London homes to join the terrorist network in Syria.

This is really disturbing...  Since she's not 18 we don't know all the details, but for all we know she wasn't even islamic to start with.  Teens really want to be a part of something, and when these groups make it seem like they can be some really bad decisions end up being made.

Hell, something similar happened just recently with a teen giving them advice on using BTC.

Well people needs some sort of "soul substitute" and this girl obviously needs some grey matter transplantation as well :/. Will she be prosecuted for stupidity?

The parents should be held liable as well. A 15 year old girl is impressionable.

As someone living in the UK, there is an extreme negative stigma against ISIS here. As someone who knows and talks to several teenagers of a similar age, using that excuse doesn't work when there is negative interpretations of ISIS no matter where you turn.

Will she be prosecuted for stupidity?
Attempted terrorism I expect, trying to join a terrorist group does make you look like a terrorist.

My opinion is that they shouldn't be arrested or stopped, though they should not be allowed back into the UK if they want to come back. If you leave for something as disgusting as ISIS fully knowing what they do you should not be given sympathy when you decide that it's not as brilliant as you anticipated.

I don't think that the government can legally block their return. As long as these people possess British passports, the government can't deny them re-entry rights. There is only one way out of this. The Cameron government should bring in a legislation, stripping British nationals who are fighting with the ISIS of their citizenship. The Australian government has already implemented this idea.

A lot of the young girls are being groomed over the internet and social media by ISIS or isis sympathizers to go over and join them whether to fight or help in some way. Many are also offered the opportunity to marry or that they will be looked after for life. These recruiters are essentially doing what pedophiles do and just offer them support and a cause to believe in so they think someone actually gives a shit about them but obviously the deal isn't so rosey once they get over there and find out they'll be married to an abusive terrorist who probably wont have much of a life span.

They certainly should, it would both simplify things and help the economy as we won't have to cater for them in prison.
Also, yes, Australia's method is what I was suggesting. Apologies, I should have been clearer.

I hope this doesn't cause a backlash against teenage girls. It's an isolated incident. In general, teenage girls are peaceful people who are an important part of our society.

The fact that she tried to join a terrorist group like ISIS implies she must not be a true teenage girl. Every true teenage girl believes in peace.

let her go and take her citizenship away

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

These children are really brainwashed but it's shocking that in many cases they didn't have any direct contact with Isis in the beginning but they received all the information over the Internet and social networks.
How to solve it?
How to save these kids?
Why normal children in our cities and schools becomes terrorists, and are turning against us, their fellow citizens?
Very hard questions but we should quickly find some answers and stop it, otherwise many kids will follow example of this 15-year-old girl.

Educate them to not be such fucking idiots. Unless people start spying on everything that these kids to do, there is no way to stop them apart from teach them to use their own judgement and know that going to a war-torn country is an idiotic idea.

I'm not a fan of taxation at all, but maybe there should be an idiot tax.

If you're an idiot, half the stuff you have gets taken.

If you're a fucking idiot, all your stuff gets taken.

If you're such a mother fucking idiot that you join ISIS, all your stuff gets taken and you get dropped out of a plane without a parachute.

If Israel is destroyed, I will devote the rest of my life to the extermination of the human species. Any species that goes down this road again less than 100 years after the holocaust needs to be fucking wiped out.

Obviously, the parents have their share of responsibility here. You tell your children not to accept sweets from dirty old men, you shall also warn them about ISIS recruiters. Was that girl coming from a normal family, sharing all dinners with mom and dad? There's got to be something wrong for this to happen.

If you are talking about the method recently formulated by the Australian government, then I have to warn you that it is not that simple. Revoking one's citizenship is a very complex method which is rarely used. The government alone can't take that decision. They need permission from the judiciary and a few other bodies.

And I really don't think that it can be implemented in the UK, when these incidents happen:

The woman, who has not been named, was arrested by counter-terrorism officers at London's Heathrow Airport in February after arriving on a flight from Turkey. She has been charged with publishing messages on Twitter in October 2014, encouraging acts of terrorism, and being a member of the terrorist organization.

Do authorities need to check our social media account when arriving in Airport? How can the authorities knew that she is a member of terrorism organization? Its weird to me, sounds it has planned by them.

This girl was not under surveillance and it is not clear whether she used her original passport or not. And she didn't directly traveled to the ISIS territory from the United Kingdom. First she got in to a flight to Turkey, and from there she traveled to the Islamic State territory. Every day tens of thousands of Britons travel to Turkey. It is not possible to screen every one of them.

But the news said she arrived in London from Turkey, not depart to Turkey. So what will she do in London if she actually want to the ISIS territory? Terrorism has made western countries be paranoid and overprotective, to prevent any terrorism action in there.

Yes. First she traveled to Turkey, from London. From there she went to the ISIS territory and lived there for some time. You asked me why the UK intelligence agencies were unable to stop her, before she crossed over to the Caliphate. The reason is that she was not under surveillance at that point of time. And now she has returned to London (Caliphate was probably too boring  Grin). May be she will return to the Caliphate sometime later, when she gets bored of the London life again.
