But those GTX hash rates are for 2 cards and because I don't know when my pocket will stretch enough to get the GTX I decided to buy the R9 280X, a SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100363VX-3L  Grin

What is that bigger card? If it has too many fans, that means the power consumption of the card is too big. It is not efficient.

It's shopped. And your efficient statement is not very logical.

Power consumption translates into heat which needs to be dissipated. Besides, fans barely use any juice.

Not your keys, not your coins!

Ha ha, I did that on mspaint for Aprils fools  Tongue
I wish there were one with 5 fans, that will measure about 21 inch (53.34 cm)  Grin

At the end the R9 280X end up being faster.

7970/ 280x is better for cheap fast eth hash power. 2 x 7970 (40MH) = 1 x 970 (20MH) pricewise.

About every other algo + gaming + resell value 970 is the winner.

The problem is that the hash rate of the 7970 is dropping steadily. We do not know if the 7970 can still be good miner in the future.

Yep, I have some second hand 970's too.

But 7970 bought in January has already ROI'd about 5-6 times and I can still sell it for more than I paid.

if you can sell at the same price that you bought it, there is no roi to do, it's all profit since the beginning, on the other hands 970 consume less, and it's better because of 3GB of memory

With that logic, do we need to buy the AMD R9 Nano? It is expensive, but it is more efficient than other cards.

one could argue this, that you said, but you need also to see the resale value, in the sense that the nano is not as easy to sell as the g1 gaming, from my point of view

this because gamers don't need the nano to play, the best gpu for gaming right now is the 970, which mean that this gpu can be easily sold

That is right. But the R9 390 cost similar to 970, and hash 30 MH/s instead of 22 MH/s. It uses more electricity.

For Ethereum mining, I will buy R9 390. It has more GRAM, so maybe a little future proof for other coins.

I have a single GTX 970 ETH mining rig and I'm happy with it.

Just built a new one and was faced with a similar decision, which card etc.

First decided on 4x GTX R9 280x but ran into heatsink issues with the card I chose, RMA blah blah...

Have 3x GTX R9 390 (not-x) coming tomorrow. Was a little more expensive but I can still add a 4th one later and will be better end the end. If ETH tanks or something changes in the market I'm ready to jump on it with this rig.

i would stay with 970 g1 gaming, they are a beast in cooling department and consumption, and have a high resell value, i can bet 100% of the original price

The price is the same. If your electricity price is not so expensive, it is better to go with the AMD R9 390.
