Microsoft helps its customers with Project Bletchley to overcome typical challenges when they bring their Blockchain-based business model to life: how do we manage digital identities? How can we integrate existing enterprise applications? And how can we secure that our system will scale with its requirements? This session will provide an overview of the Azure-based Blockchain-as-a-Service offering and how it operates as an enterprise Blockchain middleware, specifically it covers:

Bitcoin & Blockchain - Workshop, Talks and Demos

Nächstes Treffen: Donnerstag, 22. Dezember 2016 (ausnahmsweise Donnerstag statt Mittwoch)

WAYRA Academy, Kaufingerstrasse 15, 19:00 Uhr
(S-Bahn/U-Bahn Marienplatz, exit Kaufingerstrasse)

http://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Munich

Paper Wallet Workshop

Did you know you can print your bitcoins on paper and store them safely offline that way? Also holiday season is near, so we'll have an introduction talk and workshop about paper wallets, which make an original and unusual Christmas gift as well.

Apart from that, far beyond the use in Bitcoin and crypto-currencies, the concept of private and public keys, as depicted on such a paper wallet, may become more and more pervasive in the future in general. Passwords seem to be unsafe, as users forget them or pick too easy ones. And no matter what certain big hardware and OS manufacturers try to tell you, biometric identification like face or fingerprint recognition is unsafe as well and can easily be spoofed, as often demonstrated by ethical hackers.

So we'll take a look how secure (while hopefully still easy) identification and authentication may look in the future of a blockchain world. Maybe personal crypto-key management can and will some day become an intuitive habit in everyday life, just like we're used to handle our physical keys.

Target audience: Beginners

You're encouraged to bring your tablets or notebooks for this hands-on session! You should already own some bitcoins (or fractions), and have a wallet installed, e.g. Electrum.

Timetable:

19:00 Doors open, get-together, food + drinks

19:30 Bitcoin & Blockchain news roundup

20:00 Rupert Zinnecker: Paper Wallets for Crypto-Currencies

• What are crypto-currencies?

• How do I manage my crypto-currency units? ⇒ Wallets, especially paper wallets

• Why do paper wallets work? ⇒ Blockchain technology

• The paperwallet.bit website

• Paper wallets as crypto cash, is that possible?

20:30 Workshop: Try it yourselves! And/or drinks, snacks, get-together. Open end!

You're very welcome to bring little things (cookies, tea-light candles, etc) to contribute to an xmas party atmosphere. Maybe leave a comment or contact one of the organizers so that we can better coordinate initiatives in this direction! Thank you!

Bitcoin & Blockchain - Workshop, Talks and Demos

Nächstes Treffen: Mittwoch, 18. Januar 2017

WAYRA Academy, Kaufingerstrasse 15, 19:00 Uhr
(S-Bahn/U-Bahn Marienplatz, exit Kaufingerstrasse)

33c3 Review (Streamin' and chill)

This time, we'll just have a rather informal get-together and view recordings of two or three relevant talks from the recent 33rd Chaos Communication Congress, with the opportunity of discussion afterwards. Some of the Munich community were there, and it was quite a blast, as every year! And although the Chaos Computer Club is very aligned with non-commercial (or even anti-commercial) values of Hacker Ethic, and thus crypto-currencies and blockchains are usually not given much room, many people from the space nevertheless were hanging out there, and besides a lot of self-organized sessions there were three very good major talks about the subject.

Please do RSVP or cancel your RSVP as soon as you know you'd come or not, so that we roughly know how many drinks and pizza to order. We don't have a sponsor this time, so we'll pass around the hat, for everyone to contribute around €3-5. Thank you!

19:00 Doors open, food, drinks, socializing

19:30 Bitcoin/Blockchain news roundup + discussions

20:00 [Video stream] Introduction to Blockchains by vimja + discussions

This is a very good introduction talk about how (real, actual, proof-of-work-based) blockchains work on a technical level.

Target audience: Intended for hackers and developers, but should also be understandable for an audience with a financial background and just some technological affinity.

21:15 [Video stream] A world without Blockchain by Mark van Cuijk + discussions

In our community we've become used to the promises and wonders of the blockchain. But "how does national and international money transfer work in the world of banks?" How do those legacy systems work they use until today? Let's find out.

Target audience: Newcomers and everyone

22:00 [Video stream] The Zcash anonymous cryptocurrency by pesco + discussions

"Zcash is the third iteration of an extension to the Bitcoin protocol that provides true untraceability, i.e. fully anonymous transactions. It is arguably the first serious attempt to establish this extension, in the form of its own blockchain, beyond the form of an academic proposal. The talk provides an introduction to the magic that makes it work."

Target audience: Advanced (and only if there is demand)

23:00 Closing time (maybe)

Bitcoin: Privacy and Censorship Resistance Beyond the Web

Hotel Cristal München. Schwanthaler Straße 36, München
Hauptbahnhof exit South "Bayerstraße". 5 Minute walk via Goethestraße to Schwanthalerstraße junction.

http://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Munich

We're delighted to have members from the Bitcoin Core development team dropping by this time.

"Blue Matt" Corallo, advisor for Blockstream and working at Chaincode Labs Inc. in New York, will however start with a rather political talk about the impact of Bitcoin on society.

On short notice, we had to change location. We'll be hosted on location of the well-fitting 3-day security conference SECON held by the Pirate Party.

19:00 Doors open, snacks + drinks, socializing

19:30 Welcome, Introduction

19:45 Matt Corallo - Bitcoin: Privacy and Censorship Resistance Beyond the Web

In much of the western world, governments have developed the ability to prevent individuals or organizations from accessing financial services, with little or no court oversight or ability of those being marginalized to challenge the rulings. Under the guise of “terrorism” and "protecting reputations", individuals and organizations, from porn stars, to advocates for those illegally detained in Guantanamo Bay have found themselves unable to hold bank accounts, unable to accept payments online, or even had their funds seized without warning by both private and government actions. In the developing world, the situation can be just as, if not more, extreme.

In the mean time, Bitcoin has been slowly shedding its anarchistic and anti-establishment origins and finding places where it can provide legitimate value within the current financial world. In this talk, we'll cover both how Bitcoin is in a unique position to provide activists and marginalized groups access to financial systems to ensure they can continue their work, while still meeting requirements placed on the financial system for reasonable law enforcement purposes. We'll touch on a few cryptographic primitives which, when combined with Bitcoin, can create incredibly practical and powerful tools to comply with regulation without giving up privacy, and of course cover a few common misconceptions about Bitcoin.

Target audience: Newcomers, activists, and everyone

20:45 Break

21:00 Technical Part

Matt will also shortly introduce some of the technical stuff he's currently working on, with the opportunity to discuss current matters.

Target audience for this part: Technical, advanced/expert level

Hello everyone,

a twist of fate somewhat pushed us to switch location on short notice. We'll be at

Hotel Cristal, Schwanthalerstraße 36, 80336 München

*Hauptbahnhof, exit South "Bayerstraße". 5 Minute walk via Goethestraße to Schwanthalerstraße junction.*

Our event has become an inofficial track of the SECON 2017, a 3-day security conference from Thursday to Saturday organized by the Pirate Party, with speakers like Birgitta Jónsdóttir and others.
http://pirate-secon.org/

You can attend our particular talk for free of course, like usual, but everyone shall feel encouraged to consider getting tickets for the whole conference. Smiley

As announced before, Matt will start with a less-technical-rather-political talk. In the second part of the evening, we have the opportunity of technical dialog about current matters for those of us inclined.

https://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Munich/events/235381272/

Thank you and see you then!

Workshop for Newcomers + News roundup

Pirate Party LGS Bayern
Schopenhauerstraße 71, 80807 München
U2 Milbertshofen, exit South-West. 3 minute walk along Schopenhauerstraße..

http://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Munich

We'll have a more informal get-together this month, offering an introductory workshop for newcomers, as well as the opportunity to have a discussion round about news and current events in the bitcoin and blockchain space.

We usually do this format when we don't find specific speakers for our monthly workshop/talks event.

We'll be kindly hosted (again) by the German Pirate Party this time. They have rooms with all the necessary equipment in the Northern part of Munich. Thanks very much!

(We are not affiliated with the Pirate Party, nor are we affiliated with the locations and hosts of past or future events.)

19:00 Doors open, pizza + drinks (for small donations), socializing

19:30 Welcome, introduction round

19:45 Workshop for newcomers

Interactive dialog with our newcomers today about what they already know and want to learn. Advanced-level attendees are asked to assist. Learning by teaching, there's always something new to discover for all of us. We have slides and websites ready to demonstrate and show most of the subject matters.

At a meta-level: Are wallet install parties still feasible in times of high fees? For demoing transactions and block explorers, should we sidestep into altcoins for the time being? If so, which?

20:45 News roundup and discussions

Proposed topics:

• Price frenzy, all-time high, no ETF, honey badger

• The Enterprise Ethereum Alliance

• R3 unchained

• Should we even mention DASH?

21:30 End of official part, drinks, socializing

Originally we had planned an event with Abra this month, but this has been indefinitely postponed due to "product delays".

Intellectual Property Management on the Bitcoin Blockchain

How does it actually look like to work with the Bitcoin blockchain for use cases like intellectual property management, far from any "blockchain voodoo", as one of our members recently so succinctly put it what's going on in our space sometimes?

How do you build such transactions?

And how does it all tie in with all the current situation about fees? Heck, why don't you just use $altcoin that is so much easier / cheaper / faster / sexier / unicornier?

Florian Weigand, CTO from the Munich-based startup bernstein.io – formerly known as clipperz.is – will shed some light, and give us an hands-on presentation of how to secure intellectual property on the Bitcoin blockchain.

For this he will create a manual Bitcoin transaction and go in the details of how to select a proper fee to be relayed. Furthermore he will show us some tools the developers at Bernstein are using for their day-to-day work.

Yes, we did say ICO. Smiley This time we'll be examining the current craze, which is seen as quite controversial even by some of the most libertarian-minded figures in the space. To perhaps achieve some balanced perspective we're excited to have a more diverse program with several guests on this evening.

The Great Altcoin Debate (also ICOs) + Austrian Economics + Bitcoin Trading

WERK1 (Event Space, upstairs top floor)
Grafinger Str. 6, 81671 München
From the Ostbahnhof train station exit South West into Friedenstraße. Head left into Grafinger Straße, then right into the Kultfabrik/Werksviertel area. Follow the Püreelinie. Building at next side road. Upstairs 2nd floor. http://werk1.com/location/

https://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Munich/events/242301271/

We welcome Tone Vays and Aaron Koenig in Munich — two legends of the space that we're extremely happy to have on this date!

Our guests will give talks about their main fields of activity. We'll learn about the Austrian School of Economics, which has seen a significant revival with the emergence of Bitcoin, and about certain intricacies of Bitcoin trading, its price history and the actual impact on the global economy it may already have.

And while Tone and Aaron share very similar political views as big proponents of economic and social liberty, they have very different opinions on the sense or nonsense of various altcoins. So let's seize this opportunity and dig a little bit deeper here in the second part of the evening. Both speakers are independently travelling through Europe for conferences and meetups, but nowhere else they'll be confronted with each other like here in Munich. Wink

Target Audience: The first part with our guests' talks may appeal to a general audience, serving as good overviews about the economics and trading aspects of crypto-currencies. The second part with the discussion may require some acquired familiarity with the space.

We'll take this opportunity to look at the history of money and banking, and to think about what we can learn from it for a potential future of "Hyperbitcoinization (http://nakamotoinstitute.org/mempool/hyperbitcoinization/)" or the like in which crypto-currencies widely succeed.

How did money originate? How did people in the past save, lend, and invest? And how will we do online banking without actual banks in the near future (or even, today)?
