I've been doing some research on ASICs, and I see that rockminer makes some good stuff.  Keep in mind, this opinion is from someone who has just become interested in bitcoin mining.  I know that using CPUs and GPUs are pretty much worthless at this point, but beyond that, you can assume that I'm entirely uneducated.

Can someone please recommend some good hardware for me, and point me to where I could buy some (shipped to the states)?

Thanks!

before starting everything, what is your electricity cost? if this parameter isn't good enough(below 0.1 usually) than it's better to leave the whole mining thing alone, and go with the simply buying

besides this, here we recommend the s5 as a default miner to initiate with, but the s6 is coming this month, better to wait at this point

okay you are new so go cheap

all rockminer gear is old and no longer serviced by the makers.

It is also power hungry.

read this thread for a starting gear.

I would agree what is your electricity cost?  Also with summer are you prepared to get heat out of your mining area?

Heat is a issue with summer mining if you have a lot of gear.

Just a little bit of info for you, OP.  Even completely discounting the cost to power your ASIC, let's take a look at what you'd expect to make if you had that miner in hand right now.

The Antminer S5 will cost you about $378 new from Bitmain (you'll need to add in shipping and a PSU).  Let's call it $400 even and pretend you already have a PSU to drive the S5.

At the current difficulty and exchange rate, that S5 would expect to earn you ~$3.12 a day.  Even if everything stayed the same (which it won't) you're looking at ~128 days for you to mine back the cost of the miner.

As you factor in electricity costs and difficulty adjustments and exchange rates, that time will change.

Jonny's Pool - Mine with us and help us grow!  Support a pool that supports Bitcoin, not a hardware manufacturer's pockets!  No SPV cheats.  No empty blocks.

Difficulty has actually been pretty slow this summer.  Lots of low numbers.

I'm sure one day it will jump some more.  But for now it really has been a great summer as far as difficulty.
