I am not sure if I am putting this in the right section. Anyway, what are some of your guys biggest bitcoin losses? Did many people here loss everything with Mtcox? For me it is online casinos. I do have a moderate gambling habit so it was bound to happen. I lost 0.4 btc (2 x 0.2) in a site which promised to double those. They told that they invested the money in trading and i wanted to try (even i didn't believed them). But the tentation was big and I send the money. The site was gone after two days and with the site were gone even my bitcoin. All I can tell is: fortunately wasn't more.

Hmm the biggest loss I can remember is only a third of a whole bitcoin, not much compared to those who were left nothing by the Mt. Gox fiasco. Also the biggest losses I could think of would obviously come from gamblers who are addicted to that thing.

I decided it would be a great idea to move .7 BTC to a wallet, encrypt it and forget the passphrase.......
The last part wasn't part of the plan lmao.

I remember losing a small amount of bitcoin after playing with gpg and encrypting one of my cold storage addresses, then deleting both the encrypted copy and the unencrypted address keys. Oops.

Bitcoin losses are part of the game. Of course the idea is to reduce it as much as you can while trading.
One approach could be moving into the alt coin world. They're plenty of those and they easily convert to bitcoin using exchanges.
Alt coin strategies need to be diversified and carefully monitored. They change very rapidly and if you hold a short term position you need to be ready to sell as soon as you feel there is a downward slide (not to be confused with a downward movement).
The best would be to check the daily min-max values and the volume of trading. That gives you a hint on how the sentiment is for the coin.
Of course there's more to it, feel free to PM me if yuo like more information!

Haha that could be called an experiment, right? At least you didn't throw away your whole PC along with your wallet like that one guy I read about.

The only time I've had any bitcoin losses were because of my own stupidity, most of them which I earned back very quickly, so it didn't affect me much when my btc recovered. My biggest personal loss was 5 btc, I invested in the wrong altcoins. Thankfully, market was going good at that time and I knew exactly how things would be so I traded smart and made 5 btc in 2 weeks by trading only. Shush, secret.

My biggest lost was 0.2 btc which I lost on a ponzi site. Back then, I have no idea that site(cryptodouble.com) is a ponzi. I was paid once when I tried the site but when I reinvested much bigger amount, they didn't paid me anymore until they closed their site

To be fair I have never experienced any loss that would make me really depressed. Sure I had some small losses here and there in the altcoin market but that's about it, the rest has been all securely held until now and I dont plan to change.

never lost a BTC but spent them what did you spend them on? Anything significantly costlier/bigger? I have often overspent my btc, on the most unrequired things in the life of a common man. But then again, bitcoin isn't as widely acceptable anyway. The only reason I spend bitcoins are the things I don't want anybody to know it belongs to mine, so my identity too remains anonymous with btc.

For me it was the online casinos. I don't play so much anymore but last year I was going crazy on primedice; I can see how it can become an addiction for some people. I won a few times and thought I could always win. Lost over 1 BTC playing dice.

oops. Yes, gambling is pretty attractive if you don't treat it with a little strictness. Do not feel too disheartened, always feel that one day you will get that money back the next time you gamble, and gamble the money you can afford to lose. Gambling isn't as bad as it seems, its just not that good either. As much as anything involve money

I do have a moderate gambling habit so it was bound to happen. I lost bitcoin trying to earn some. Concretely I paid some bitcoin to buy hash power in a cloud mining site. I had earnings for two weeks and then bought again hash power (big error because I must earn firstly the bitcoin that has spent) and that week the cloud mining site was hacked (that's the story the owners told) and all my bitcoin get lost. That is exactly what happened to me, actually. I lost $80 to this "cloudminr" site and they claimed they got "hacked". So many of these ponzi schemes are pushed and they always crash. Pays to know, though.

The cloud mining industry fucked things up for bitcoin so bad, even affecting the minds and believe of bitcoin users when they invest their btc into a cloud mining product and end up getting scammed so badly, most of them losing half of their total savings. That's why I keep my personal money different.
