Just curious about your sig advertising? Why 72 GH/z?

The bASIC project had to make a few changes to the design. They updated the customers via their forum that included the new estimated speed and power.

Unfortunately this may push shipping back a week or two.

However I am optimistic that the advertised spec's will need to be updated one final time once the bASIC units start shipping.

have they fixed the USB issue that people are suggesting would impede using Pi w/ ASICs? Obviously a $50 alternative would be preferable to $150, but only if it works.

It would be nice if they have. I was looking at running an i.MX25 dev kit I have kicking around, but I'd like to try running them on a Pi as well.

I will be eating Ramen noodles if I don't get my ASICs in Jan/Feb, I cannot afford for shipping to be delayed any more.

The numbers might not lie, but BFL does. Does anyone seriously believe their entire SC product line will consume precisely 1w of power to produce 1Gh? They weren't even close last time they rolled out a product with very optimistic power consumption specs.

I believe it is possible due them using such a smaller process size. Possible, maybe unlikely.. but we'll have to wait and see.

Like I said in an earlier post I think BFL's marketing was very clever for saying October for a ship date. Letting people think they would be mining with ASIC units well before the competition. Grabbing the majority of the pre-orders. Personally I believe they are on their shipping timeline.....they just duped us all into believing it would be October.

I don't really want to say anything negative about the bASIC at this point... Tom is already apparently in a really bad spot and there is no sense pouring gas on that fire. We haven't decided specifically which way we want to make things even up with competitors products yet, but we have a lot of options and we will match competitors products that actually ship. We will not leave BFL customers behind the curve when it comes to hardware. I'd say there's a good chance we will be shipping before bASIC at this point.

I'm trying to figure out how you can increase the chip count by at least 25% and still maintain the same already incredible power efficiency for a 90nm product. The bASIC is truly a magical device. Maybe Tom found a source of Pegasus blood... it's 2x the awesome as Unicorn Blood.

Personally, I can't wait to see what actually comes out of the bowels of the bASIC manufacturing plant, but I bet it's going to be, at the very least, quite interesting.

I drive around 80 FPGAs from a Rasp Pi, you need to do this (bridge polyfuses and add low ESR[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equivalent_series_resistance] cap to /Vdd - Vss/ output USB port [nichicon/os-con]:

If this is true then I think 72Gh@120w is clearly competitive.

If they (BFL) go to 72, they will start coming dangerously close to the red zone. (Easy Heat Death for their chips. They stated before when they go to 60GH/s they can have up to 25% higher clocks)
