Is mining really still profitable? I thought because of the amount of people mining right now it was hard unless you dedicated all your time to it.

Mining is profitable and requires you to devote enough time to build a computer and then start some software. Then you can go about your life. Being tech savvy is a definite plus however.

Given the recent price fluctuations buying coins is still more profitable however. This may change in the future, who knows.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

It seems the invisible rapture did occur and bitcoin is the chosen currency by whatever god is true and right.

Good grief this is moving fast.

It seems to be charging towards 20 $ if you ask me.

I think with people in Russia and China apparently becoming interested, prices can only go up in the short run.

There seems to be a lot of hope that Bitcoin could be a serious currency in the future. Even though the price action is explosive the Bitcoin story is just starting to get mass recognition.

I wish we did, Id like some more coins.. Smiley   If it hits $10 again, I'll be increasing my stash further.

regardless of what the short-term profiteers wail about, I havent seen anything better, or even in the same ballpark come along yet.   Unless it does, I'm still confident that BTC have a big future.

Want to sell me some $10 coins ?  ;-)

as for me, i'm pretty sure that we won't break 13 USD barrier in short-term. partial buying now seems wise solution to me.

Bitcoin Fact: the price of bitcoin will not be greater than $70k for more than 25 consecutive days at any point in the rest of recorded human history.

where is your God now? Smiley
in 1-2 days IMO we don't break 13 USD mark. and if trading will close above 14$ there are obvious signs of mini-rally.

I don't understand why people are still buying and why people want the price to go DOWN

Do you want to lose money?

If anything buy but push the price UP

Stupid people want prices to go down so they can buy more. Bear in mind that raising prices is harder than bringing it down. Lots of small businesses went down because of this. Thinking that even if they're only making a small profit per item, the volume will make up for it. Then suddenly, competition pops up nearby with the same prices. BAM! Volume is halved.

Maybe they're stating their honest opinion that bitcoins have few uses and so far have been used as a highly speculative investment by most users.  In times of trouble (USA/PIIGS at the moment) very risky assets get sold off while investors flock to safety.  If bitcoin truly is as good as gold (as is often claimed on these forums) it should be rocketing up in value right now.

the problem is only a small percentage of the population knows about bitcoin, whereas everyone knows what gold is.......
