Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Is it so that the bitcoinfoundation wants your real name if you want to become a member:

Fact 1.: Once you've entered your personal information with their site, you don't know who will have access to your personal information, and there's no privacy statement on their page.

Fact 2.: If their server ever get's compromized, your private data may be released in the wild, painting you as a bitcoin user for the entire Internet to see. Some people may be fine with this, others not - and then the solution may be not to sign up..
