Does anyone know who is the owner of this bar?

Do you have the other one?

There was only 2 made.

This is the redeemed one.

If you are interested in purchasing it I'd be happy to work with you! Smiley

Ah totally understand!

I don't know who the other owner.

The owner of the opened 500 BTC bar sees it as a 2 of 2 piece of art.  We had it listed at one point for 1,100 BTC.  The owner will entertain all offers.

(another rare 100BTC v1 error loaded bar is included in the link above that maybe of interest as well at some point)

Just wondering, (if it's ok to ask) did you redeem the bar yourself or did you buy it redeemed?
If you redeemed it yourself, I'm hoping you did so at a good time for BTC but then again good could be anything more than you bought it for.
Anyway, I'd be interested to know how much both the redeemed and funded ones sell for. In this case how would you decide a price seeing as there's no set market price for this bar seeing as there are no others and none to have been sold so far.

I believe this is one of those cases where the bar is going to get whatever the seller is willing to pay for it. Obviously if funded is being sold it would be 500btc+ some kind of a premium, but as there have been no sales of these bars yet there is no pre-defined premium.

Neither.  I do not own this bar.

It's tricky and there was a process that I fully agree with.

The price really depends on the client purchasing it as well and what their intent is (if they choose to disclose that information.)

Example:

CEO decorating his office with fucking cool rare shit.... 1,100 BTC.

Someone purchasing it in order to donate it to the Smithsonian or the Louvre.... 1,099 BTC Wink lol just kidding, but you see what I mean.

There is a good chance that he might have contact information for his buyer, and might be able to provide such information if the buyer had indicated that he might be interested in selling. I think contacting chainsaw would probably be a pretty good start in trying to find the current owner.

I'm here. I still lurk almost daily. I don't browse the categories anymore, so this thread never hit my radar. BAC was kind enough to let me know about it.

I know for a fact that chainsaw sold it to a wealthy buyer and no longer has it.

I'm happy to report this is untrue. Elianite, perhaps you've mistaken it with one of the V1 100 BTC bars I've sold? (Still have one available for sale, can't miss a chance to plug ;-)  ).

I own one of the two 500 BTC bars in existence.
There is only 1 Version 1, and 1 Version 2 in existence:
http://casascius.uberbills.com/?type=500

This means that it would only ever be possible for one, single collector to create a complete set of all casascius collectibles, all versions.
There is no still-Active Version 2 500 BTC bar in existence.

I asked BAC to try to sell the bar on commission. Mostly because I didn't have the time, and didn't want to have to bear the ridicule he instead got.

Here's the thing.
If Bitcoin fails, or the collectible market fails, then it doesn't matter, I'll never get anything for it.
If it succeeds, I look to history to expect what will happen.
This is _the_ key date to the set.
Look at the premiums paid for the 0.5 BTC variety which has a mintage of only 45.
I always like to point people to the St Gaudens coin market for another example. A highly prized set, with ultra-rare key dates drawing fortunes.
If and when the collectible market heats up, demand will be far, far greater than it is today.
And, I am happy to pass this down to my kids - it's not something I need to sell.  But there is _some_ price I'd sell it at, so I put it out there.

I don't know. Maybe there's some right way to try to sell something like this. It just seems that it would need larger publicity, interest, marketing, etc. I always considered things like putting it up at a high end auction site once our next mega-rally was well underway. I may have to wait several more years for the market and demand to be there. Whatever - it's fun to keep tabs on. I've seen more activity in the crypto collectible marketplace in the last month or so.

Indeed I am mistaken; my memory has betrayed me. Glad you still have it!

Wait till my book comes out. I think if we can get it to the attention of some mainstream rare-coin collectors, there will be some significant interest and money moving in. It will be published this year, and I am working with a very capable academic to make it highly interesting to the average intelligent individual. (I also cant help but plug; link is in my signature Smiley )

But in all seriousness, I think the book is the first step to bringing in outside interest. Question is how to get it out there.

Confirmed and agree.

I think you are going about it a just fine way at this point.  Letting the piece sell itself and having a "shark" in the waters.  We very well may not see the true value of this 1 of 2 piece in this lifetime, but while we have time... why not try and if Bitcoin flops we'll survive the Beanie Baby jokes Smiley.

Inquires, questions, comments or media can PM me or post on the original thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=408438.msg4427259#msg4427259

Checked out bitpremier.com yet?

I have, but it's been about a year, and I appreciate the reminder.

Given the current market size, I think the most likely scenario is that I'd offer it with a starting bid that would never be met, and I'd have to handle the security of accessing my bar, securely sending it, then in an unsuccessful sale, having it get re-sent.  My history (most notably including 'Projects') has me gunshy towards such ventures.  It's still a good option to consider - thanks!

I've been PM'ed about interest by one user, who knows, maybe that will go somewhere.
