this may be a dumb question. but what will happen to the stolen bitcoins if karpeles actually had them stored somewhere?

This isn't justice it's a dog and pony show. The justice happens when everyone he stole from gets their money back and the video of him getting ass raped in a U.S. prison goes viral.

and here I thought your post earlier on the 1st page was serious.  Tongue

Maybe not. Maybe this is proof of how secure a brain wallet is under Japanese interrogation procedures...

(But yes right now it's a dog and pony show. And why are there always copious amounts of people whenever there are photos or footage from Japan?! Why is he arrested in a crowd and not in a dark alley?!)  Smiley

I understand the crowds. I spent a little time in Tokyo and there's more than a few people in that city. If they arrested him in a public toilet stall their would be 50 people watching. lol

Nothing probably. I'm sure he has them well hidden. If you're smart it's so easy to hide bitcoins so they can never be found. He'll probably do his time then get out and buy an island when bitcoin is worth 10/100 times as much  Cheesy.

I don't care if he ends up in jail or not. What I care about is people's money. Fortunately, I did not lose anything on MtGox incident but I hardly imagine that people who lost money are gonna be happy because scapegoat - Karpeles is in prison. Where are the money? Stolen by hackers? Everything? As you said before justice is reparation of errors and not creating semblance of it by punishing idiots.

The price is going down? It's hovered between $250 and $300 since like around January.

That would probably make a lot of people happy.  Even better if it were a large and angry black man doing the raping.  They love that very soft and fully French meat.

Some quotes from a former mtgox employee:

Yes, my belief was he was using customer deposits to support his lifestyle (many stories there) and that of the company without audit. Again, INCREDIBLY frustrating to see something you love and believe in... in the hands of someone... such as Mark at that time.

There were many interested investors. Once I found the discrepancy, and the missing money... I called the investors and told them about the situation. I wanted no blood on my hands, and they all left immediately.

--------- Security ------

"Yes. We had multiple meetings about this... the response was laughable.

Mark said that if he died there would be hints that one of his best friends could follow to find and unlock the cold-wallets. When I asked said friend, he said he had no idea what Mark was talking about."

Oh, I see what you mean. The price is traveling between such a narrow band of movement maybe that is a better way of looking at it.

I'm not so sure. They have ways to ask questions in Japan. Let's just say that I will not be surprised at all if in a few weeks they have found many missing bitcoins and there are no pictures of how Mark is looking before surgery puts him back together.

I think he was talking about an even bigger blacker man than that.

Wait a minute - do the Japanese even have black people?  I don't think I've ever seen an AfricanBlackJap

OK - now I found one...

That's not even the most shocking thing. What about the lack of cold storage and ignoring issues that were live on the server? And the shared account I posted earlier? I was shocked reading the reddit thread... Things are far worse than I could imagine.

I'm surprisingly pleased by this. One down, a few to go.

I nominate Josh Garza next. I have personal stake in this one. That one would trully make my day.

Let's pray for karma to do its job. (Yay mixing religions here)
