Untill the next oil technology breakthrough. Oil also has major economic limitations on how PROFITABLE it would be to drill it all out that fast, which is why it's never happened and is why we're not likely to "run out" of oil for a good century or more (though we might see more short-term shortfalls as we have done in the past).
There is some similarity of oil and bitcoin though, in that they are both limited in available product TO "mine" - the biggest difference is the artificial limits on how fast Bitcoin CAN be mined, but it still makes sense for a big miner (be that a manufacturer or not) to push to get as many as it can now BEFORE OTHERS BEAT IT TO THEM, and makes ZERO sense for a miner to try to "hold back the hashrate" - there are too many folks that WON'T collude to make that a viable strategy, unlike oil production where the number of significant producers is strictly limted by the HUGE PRICE OF ENTRY and the limitation of most major oil producing nations having nationalised their oil and access to it (The US and UK are the only significant exceptions to that last, and even the UK has been semi-nationalised for a lot of the time it's oil industry has existed).
P.S. - who do you consider the "big three" - there's more than 3 makers still around, though a few don't sell to the public any more.
D'Beers (sp?) is a very different situation from oil. One company in one country controlling the majority of the "reserves" of Diamonds is in no way comparable to the number of producers and countries in the Oil industry - even the Saudis and their "largest proven reserves of any country in the world" are nowhere near having the kind of control D'Beers has over diamonds (witness the current "oil price war", which certainly is NOT maximising profits for anyone).

It says on the tracking page that the department number is "power supply" so I suspect he'll receive his PSU tomorrow, not the miner. Also FWIW, UPS tracking said that my review copy miner weighed 3.0 kg, so a little less than that 4kg estimate.

Same here which is why i opted for UPS instead of FedEx My read of that warning (and I could be wrong) was that there could be a delay if there was a customs problem, not that there would be a definite delay with FedEx. It wasn't clear to me why other carriers would be any better, so I went with FedEx. As a corporate shipper and a receiver, I found them to be an extremely reliable carrier. That said, the point is kind of moot because no orders of the S7 have actually really shipped yet. They've all been PSUs by the look of them. If there is a delay it's on the Bitmain side at this point.

I agree with your thought, I have always ordered my miners UPS from Bitmain and never once had any issues with damage or delay coming to my commercial address. The FedEx option was slightly less expensive but my track record with UPS has been great and I have a daily account with them so I picked that option

UPS has been great for me as well, but I had to pay some high import fees when I received the unit ($10 CAD to have UPS broker the package into Canada, plus ~ $121 CAD for import fees). Have any of you guys in the States had to pay import fees on BITMAIN miners? I've heard from some people that they haven't had to pay any additional fees, might be a Canada-only type thing.

Miners are not subject to any import fees coming to the US, however UPS will charge its brokerage fees to handle the import.. It's more about the number of boxes than shipment value..

Since you are a newbie: Here is some info for you. In the past with preorders of the s-3 and s-5 they shipped out a few days earlier then the estimated date. I was hoping they would do the same here. This is why I asked if anyone had notice of shipping.
