I wonder when we will see the prices of bitcoin raise above 1k. There has been some negative news about bitcoin influecing the price in the past so 2016 was not the best year.
But hoping for a better year in 2017 where we see high values and then the wait finally pays off.

I would say that 2014 was not a good year.

2015 was pretty good, and 2016 was pretty good so far.

When you are hearing conclusions that 2016 was a bad year for bitcoin, at our current place, you may be listening to the wrong folks.

Yes, I understand that we are hoping and expecting BTC prices to go passed their previous ATH - but even if BTC prices don't go passed the previous ATH for quite a while, bitcoin can still be in a pretty decent place - especially relative to other possible options.

Secondly, I understand that folks frequently get tempted by the profit making volatility of the alt crypto markets, and they see folks making all kinds of money, but really those various alt coins continue to be quite larger gambles than bitcoin, and you gotta really be careful regarding how much you get sucked into those.  I have less than 5% of my total crypto investments in alts, and I really have a difficult time relating to folks who put more than 50% into alts (expecting to make BTC out of it), and even though 25% is quite a bit too risky for my thinking, at least 25% is a bit more reasonable.

Part of my whole point here is that, even though a lot of us can recognize considerable upside potential in bitcoin and the odds are pretty decent, we still gotta be careful in whether we bet too much on bitcoin experiencing exponential upside volatility.  If such upwards volatility comes, then it is a kind of icing on the cake, yet should not be taken for granted because there are also big financial players out there that do not mind losing money in order to make attempts to manipulate bitcoin prices down, but if adoption and development become too great, their attempts at downward manipulation have extensive difficulties in regards to bitcoin and the way it is set up and its actual scarcity (in spite of some fractional reserve abuses that may be taking place behind the scenes).

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Bitcoin is doing not so good in my opinion if you look at 2016 this year was super stale and if we don't see more news on improvement in 2017 then imo alot of people are going to leave it behind.
Hoping for 2017 to be a great year and not as stale as 2016 was, two more months and we are in 17

I think that I already addressed this too, in my previous response.

You seem like you could be attempting to pump something other than bitcoin?  What is that?

I don't see how you can recognize an approximate doubling of the price of BTC in 2016 as being stale?  Yeah, it has not been steady or clear, and there have been ups and downs, but really? stale?

For now 2016 has imo been a very successful year.Remember last year around that time we had been in the 200s!Now we are in the 600s!That's 3x up my friend!!
Regarding the $1000 we will see them again. It's a question of time that's for sure. It might not happen this year anymore but I'm pretty positive somewhere around 2017 we can reach it again and maybe build a new ATH.

Keep in mind that the core devs are working hard and SegWit + compact blocks is around the corner. Bitfury and Acinq have together made the first steps in terms of lightning routing! Other companies are working on similar or different implementations like Thunder and Falcon for intance. So in terms of technological progress we are moving forward. And that has to be the first step for more and more adoption which will create higher values.

So have a bit patience my friend. For a fully working, secure and decentralized network on a big scale, things have to be done properly!

I am with you all the way, Denker, and you beat me to the punch on some of the matters that you addressed.

Regarding the next ATH, you are correct that it could take sometime to evolve into such and could take place in 2017, yet it could happen at any time.. It is really difficult to know for sure.

Sure at this point, there seems to be various resistance in the $600s and $700s, but at the same time, that resistance can melt away very quickly when certain mile stone announcements are made in terms of the various developments that you outlined that kind of revolve around seg wit technologies.

Also, as you imply, seg wit does not really solve any kind of scaling issues on its own in order to facilitate greater adoption, but it certainly puts wheels in place to allow for more and more developments that could cause a variety of "killer apps", and yeah, the market responds in weird ways and at weird times to attempt to price in these future developments at a time that they become more clearly solidified, but probably before the rest of the folks realize the positive impact of such solidifications.

TLDR:  We got a lot of factors in place that are placing considerable upwards price pressures on bitcoin that could cause rapid exponential growth, yet it could also just grow more slowly, too, even though the upwards price pressures seem to be fairly solidly in the mix of our current bitcoin place.

Also, the halving that took place a few months ago will continue to put a constant upward pressure on the price Smiley.

It really is a shame that Fak is letting this one die on the vine during such an uplifting bull trend that's likely to really shock the world.

Thank God.

I was afraid that (my quirky humor) I might have offended him on an earlier post.

And at $747, I am still buying as much as I can, about 1/2 btc a month.

I'm so sad read about economics there, Cry
"Ever since the Zimbabwean dollar was replaced by a basket of foreign currencies, things have gone from bad to even worse."
I just know this actually happened, a country replaced their currency and get worse, I think it's complex matter to handle since the government supposed to improve the standard of living / income per capita of their citizens, not an easy task to do.
Bitcoin adoption as national currency may one step to resolve state currency problem and they be able to do it as the previous change.
If it happen, I hope their economics will be better and huge impact to bitcoin price and stability of course.
