I'd like to suggest the creation of an .onion url for bitcointalk.org as an additional layer and a security measure against ddos attacks and (maybe) gov attacks (why not?).

I think that would be an interesting idea so the regular forum could suggest that all TOR users should use the onion address the same way blockchain.info does today.

The .onion link will also serve as an backup site.

P.s. I don't know the costs related to that possible implementation.

I like the idea. Smells like we are a minority though.

While I would support such an addition, if would not provide any additional benefits that you listed above besides better anonymity for tor users on bitcoin talk.

It would not provide any additional benefits for security. The server would need to be the same in order for the sites to be in sync. It would really just be another link to access the same server.

Tor also does not prevent ddos attacks.

The .onion link will also serve as an backup site.

P.s. I don't know the costs related to that possible implementation.
As I said above, it would not be a backup because it is still the same server.

I agree, that would be just an add-on.

But a very nice add-on such as:

Facebook: facebookcorewwwi.onion

Blockchain.info: blockchainbdgpzk.onion/

DuckDuckGo: 3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion

Is there any possible downside to it? Also, how many resources would have to go into making the .onion site? I only ever once used TOR, and went to the darknet wiki... Also, not to derail this thread, but what are some good .onion sites I should know about.
