Looks like you have trouble reading. This is a candidate that wants to make Bitcoin equal, but he has to first be elected and then make others support his project. There's a long way to go.

Looks like bitcoin in Canada will be recognized like a currency.
I think that you might want to rephrase that. Alex Millar, who is running as a independent candidate, wants to push this through. This does not mean that this will definitely happen. It depends on a few things, the first being if he is going to get elected at all.
I do agree that this would be beneficial for both Bitcoin and Canada.

You were slightly faster than me. Yeah, there are a lot of things that need to happen before this is possible. I'd say that it is going to be harder for him to get elected than to slowly gather support over time. Who knows how much time this is going to take even if he does get elected.

I'm not sure this is such a good idea. As I've been saying, the best thing is governments distancing themselves from Bitcoin. Negative reactions to cryptocurrencies by governments are everywhere and I'm frightened that positive reactions might lead to over-regulation/desire to control the currency. We are all seeing what BitLicense is causing... Canada might go the same way.

I agree and also don't agree  Grin

If it's recognised as a currency then yes the same regulations that apply to foreign currencies would then most probably apply to bitcoin. Not sure about regulations in Canada in terms of foreign currencies but I think it might be more 'friendly' than any other kind of regulations (like a BitLicence clone). However, this will depend on what kind of regulations are in place for foreign currencies, could actually make things worse.

Personally think it will be good for bitcoin to be seen as a currency, think it will push adoption if the government 'says' bitcoin is a 'legal' currency. Will give it more credibility.

One thing catches my eye; "..who does not currently appear in the official election almanac,.. "  So basically he's not even a candidate technically, right ?
Sounds to me like an attempt to give bitcoin some media attention - not that i mind tho .. But even so, i doubt it will have some real affect what he's doing.

I think he is, but he's just a minor candidate. Do they put minors in the almanac as well? This guy doesn't seem to be that popular; it's just the whole bitcoin thing.

I agree maybe he only uses the bitcoin thing to be recognized in the media. I doubt any government officials would want bitcoins to be their country's currency. Well we all know how the government system works

Not like governments particularly like bitcoin, anyways, right? The US seems to dislike it.

Its really hard for me to figure out how much I want the government interested in bitcoin. Eventually they will want to control it in some from or worse tax it.
Wish I did not have such a tinfoil view of this but I can not help it. Cheesy

Government has every reason to dislike bitcoin. Unlike $$$ they can't control bitcoin. People control bitcoin so they will not really benefit from it.

It will be tough for him he has no banner not even the Greens which would be somewhat helpful in Vancouver
As an independent he will need to put a lot of effort in there.

Both Millar and the Election Almanac have been contacted for further clarification on his status as a candidate.
(Well if he is an official candidate)

I am very far away from Canada. I dont know the politic there. However, I would really like to see Bitcoin recongnised as a currency like fiat. I hope that he is a candidate for the election that will take place next month. Even if he did not win the election, it will at least bring Bitcoin some "drama".

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

Time to be active on the crypto forums again? Proud to be one of the few Legendary members of the Sparkie Red Dot!

Gonna put this on my resume if I ever join a cryptocurrency/blockchain industry!

Yeah, this is really a good new and we can say that there is a bright future for bitcoins as more and more countries have started to regulate bitcoins.  As bitcoin has begun to break into the mainstream and gain exposure, many business have come under greater scrutiny from regulators. This is a good run for bitcoin so for. We just have to wait and watch the progress of bitcoins.
