Hello,

i got my S3 today and set up all. Its working. Smiley Had some troubles to reach the ip but its good now.
But i have one problem. The miner is now running 10-20 Minutes and i am mining in the Eligius pool.
When i look at the miner status it shows:

Acceptet: 245
Discarded: 2334

Why do i get so many discarded shares? And what does that mean exactly?

Sincerly,

RL

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Where can you see your accepted/rejected shares in Eligius?

Rejected shares usually happen when your hardware and the pool are dissonant.

The most important part is your hashrate average, which should be around 440GH/s for a S3.

I see them in the s3 configuration.

like so:

But i updated the Firmware, now the discarded shares are much lower! Smiley
So is it normal or not bad to have discarded shares? I mean they are so many!

The GH/s are normal.

From what I can see in the screenshot, you are mining on Slush's pool (mining.bitcoin.cz). You should check your effective hash rate on the pool's site. I don't think it will match.

It's normal to have rejected shares, but you are right that the amount you currently have is a lot.

Yes i changed it so see if it get there less dircarded shares.
My effective GH/s are 433 GH/s on the Slush Pool.
Yes they are so many. But i stillt dont exactly know what they mean.

There are rejected shares and discarded shares. Where is the difference?

"Discarded is a meaningless stat unless you're using getwork (and even then it only matters to the pool operator, not the miner). It is a 100% useless stat on GBT and Stratum. Discards are not rejects, they aren't even shares. It means your software had work prepared to hash but instead it discarded it in favor of newer/fresher work. You aren't wasting any hashes when your miner discards work."

Quoted from eleuthria, former BTC Guild Pool operator.

My Antminer s5 produce half as much discarded shares and it mine just fine so i wouldn't worry about Discarded share stats any longer.
Just make sure your hashrate on the poolside is where it's should be at.

The poolside is really your best stat look there and make sure you are getting proper hashing speed.   And chances are the discarded really will not hurt anything like others said.

But always check poolside on rates.  I check at least once a day if not multiple.

Thank you. I already contracted Bitmain and they said if the hash rate is good, everything is fine. Even the cgminer developer said those stats are worthless. Smiley

But i have a new problem since this morning. My hash rate is now only the halve. One of my board (chain1) is down or just display "xxxx...xxxx" under basic status.
Is my board defect? Can i fix that?

I get X's all the time after a live/soft reboot, while changing config. Its not impossible that the chips all died but it seem extremely unlikely to me. Everytime i get X counts i just power cycle it and it work fine afterwards.

Do that and let us know. Make sure the pcie are plugged correctly too, etc.
