Well not all people can write a decent article to get a decent amount of $$$ per word as it needs some writing skills and good vocabulary so don't compare it with captcha typing.

There are different methods apart from just signature campaigns like selling your service or doing freelance work. Let us try not to limit our earning capabilities in just signature campaigns. There are lots of opportunities to grab, really.

Freenlancing online is really a good way to earn a decent amount of money, I know someone (freelance writer) personally that earns decent amount enough for his overall expenses , but it's not that easy to be a freelancer as you need great skills to earn more.

I can earn more than 2 dollar in a day from my signature campaign. If I have free 4 or 5 hours to claim some satoshi from faucets, I can make more than 1 dolar and totally I can earn 3-4 dollars in a day.

May be you're right that something is better than nothing. Many people spending their time on faucets to make some bitcoins by keeping the price raise of bitcoin in mind rather than considering today's bitcoin value. If you want you some bitcoin and if you believe bitcoin would be more worth in future than faucets also a good way to earn.
