I was expecting something better to be honest. It's still not clear what this machine will be able to do other than mining, their FAQ says it's for devs to learn and develop and sell digital goods, but develop what, sell what digital goods and to whom? In what platform? There's just too much uncertainty at this point. I'd avoid putting a pre-order until someone else has done so and put a review out there after getting the machine. By the way, all this madness on Reddit seems unjustified. It's almost like someone is trying to manipulate the vote system in order to promote it. Here's a funny article btw: For just $400 you can have this Raspberry Pi – and MINE BITCOINBurning dinosaurs for fun and profithttp://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/09/22/for_just_400_you_can_have_this_raspberry_pi_and_mine_bitcoin/

No. It doesn't make any sense buying that product for $400.

If it doesn't make sense to you, then it's not for you. Also, didn't 21 say that they haven't even shown off their software yet? Let's not be hasty.

Agree, the software could be something neat but then again why wouldn't they reveal more prior to the pre-order phase? Is it because they're in fear of disappointing potential customers?

Absolutely not, it's just a clone of something that already exists, unless they can convince people otherwise.

Please people; DO NOT PRE-ORDER. (<- period) As for the motivation why; just read the numerous topics on this very forum that are filled with "happy and satisfied" customers who pre-ordered stuff...

That's definitely the key to major success, only catering towards super geniuses who "get" super vague techno babble that doesn't actually say anything. Although, I guess plenty of companies have made money ripping off people that just want to seem smart by claiming to understand shit like this and buying an overpriced piece of junk.

That's the weirdest part about 21's project: it can only be bought on Amazon, who don't even accept BTC. For a mainstream audience, this is positive. But they won't shell out $400 to get nearly nothing in return.

Considering it has undisclosed software I wouldn't buy this even for 40$. They really need to put something worthy and unique, otherwise I don't think they could sell these items in pre-order, especially with this price.

Probably not going to pre-order but I am interested in acquiring one in the future. I think the concept behind it is unique. $400 for a Pi is pretty expensive but you're essentially paying for the software/development behind it.

One oddity I can't understand is why they sell a product that is supposedly designed to make it easy to accept bitcoin payments, yet they haven't figured out how to accept bitcoin payments on their own website yet. They shouldn't have announced anything until they were ready. Until they are ready everyone would be wise to not invest (pre-order). Because we all know that pre-ordering anything related to bitcoin is a crap shoot, not really a pre-order.

But they won't shell out $400 to get nearly nothing in return. I think it's a smart business move on their end. Most people still don't know/understand bitcoin. So they pitch the "First Bitcoin Computer" to a wide audience on Amazon and make it easy to pay. I'd venture that 95% of folks that see it aren't comparing it to a Bitcoin Miner that is always associated with ROI. Most shoppers never shop for electronics with the ROI mentality. So then it just becomes a sales pitch to the un-informed but curious shopper. And it's a good pitch for those outside the dome. Backed by respected VCs. Something that can just be plugged in and generates "money" when it's on. Brilliant! This will sell like hotcakes and make investors loads of money. It's not geared to the 5% of us in the bitcoin dome, it's for all the other suckers buyers out there that want an easy money tree that doesn't need water. Who cares if it will never grow past a blip in the dirt.

Someone should dress up a usb block eruptor in a fancy external housing gizmo with some additional LEDs and sell it for $100 on Amazon.

The AntRouter R1 has a better chance of commercial success IMO ... but that one is not shipping yet either.
