So is your "all in" price about $200 to "muffle" one S7? Have you down clocked in any way, or is it running at stock speed from the factory?

no  it was:

 53 + 53 = 106 for 2 mufflers

2 bike clamps are 5 bucks

rubber is about 6

so 106+ 5 + 6 =  117  I had an ebay discount of 14% on the 2 mufflers so take off 15 = 102.

the mufflers will last longer then the s-7  so they will be a sunk cost.

BTW if you buy 2 or 3 of these S-7's  you can link them on their side rails.

this allows for   2 of these  http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/555-17805  lined with this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/220659184713?  one for intake one for discharge

this would do 3 units.

Also a very slight underclock to freq 575 would allow fans lower maybe 25 or 30% .

this is the next  test I will set  this freq 575 and fans at 25%.

I set it to freq 587  and fans at 30%  looks too warm.  db is 56 at ⅔ meter  db is 51 at bedroom door.

240 volt evga p2 1600   pdu read 4.8 amps so 4.8 x 240 = 1152 watts   and hash is 4779 so  1152/4779 = 0.241 watts a gh!!

So far the temps are a bit high
I am trying to get under 60 with fans at 30%

  64-66  with freq 587  and fans at 30% hash is 4775       240 volts x 4.8 = 1152 watts   or  .241 watts a gh

  63-65  with freq 581  and fans at 30% hash is 4708       240 volts  x 4.8 = 1152 watts  or  .245 watts a gh   {note my pdu only does amps up to 1/10 so watts are off a bit}

 63-65  with freq 575  and fans at 30% hash is  4646       240 volts x 4.7 =  1128 watts  or  .242 watts a gh

  63-65 with freq 568 and fans at 30% hash is   4598           240 volts x 4.6 = 1104 watts  or .239 watts a gh

freq  568 is giving me 0% errors.  but it is still too warm.  I am going to bump fan to 32%

32% drops me to 61-63  0% errors

so freq 568 fans at 32%  will do a long run. over night.

Now it is still warm in New Jersey.   So once it gets colder I can run  the fans lower.  This unit  has custom fan settings and custom freq setting. So with those of us that are sound challenged it is way better then the s-5.

Great idea mate!
Would it be "safe" putting the miner inside a bigger version of those ducts? I could consider something like this for older ASIC's at a "stealth-mining site"!

Miners gotta mine! Cheesy

Edit:

Didn't see your "17 Inch Deep Rack Sleeve 4U", this basically answers my question!

I am going to set the second one up and try the rack sleeve as the draw in muffler along with the metal ones as the exhaust mufflers.

Setting the fan speed to 28% - 35%  and the clock speeds from 550 to 612   will allow for tuning the sound.

Right now I am exploring super low clocks.

fans  are 20%  sound down to 47db   at ⅔ meter and at 44db at bedroom door.

running under 12 volts void warranty  I am running at 12 volts with the evga 1600 p2    I use 610 watts to get this hash .  I will do 11 volts in 90 days I will do 10 volts in 90 days.

Okay more good news the controller runs 6 boards.  I am doing it now .

I am at ½ clock  freq 300 as the psu will only give me 1600 watts max.

at ½ speed clock fans can go to 20% no mufflers needed 55db   with decent pitch and temps are good.

give me a minute or 2.

did you a) check the cables maybe one is bad.
             b) I could not get every psu to work I had to play around.

so check the power supplies and the cables.----  as I had that line of dots with the wrong psu's

So far I got an evga 1600 p2  and a seasonic 1200 plat  the evga is doing 4 boards and the seasonic is doing 2 boards.

My highest setting has been 531.25   it works fine with this.  oh the evga is driving the lone controller.

200$ to take it down to 58 db is good but that next to your bed? Talk about not being able to sleep easily, I do like the set up a lot but the only real negative I see space.

it is going in the garage

that bedroom is a guest bedroom and the 220/240 power is easy access.

I am cleaning the garage to make room.

cost is 100 for 1 machine not 200

The machines slide together pretty nice

you could link 20 or 30 on a long table.

but this linking has set back my soundproofing as it is too tight a fit to slide the muffler over the fan

I could dlink them to make room for mufflers see photo

I have to decide what I want to do.

Sound proof will raise the temperature substantially and probably shorten the life of your miners.  Just put them in the garage or something.

Sound proofing does not increase temps if done correctly.

I am not restricting air flow with the muffler system.

the setup works fine with one machine. with more then one it will need a tweak or 2.

easiest tweak is don't slide them to lock.

the mufflers will never leak water/coolant.

Phil, what was the dB reading before the muffler?  I didn't see it listed in the thread.
