I'm from Venezuela and had to get out of there because everyday it gets more dangerous and harder to make a living. I'd like to know what the public image of Venezuela is around the world and get an idea of how the media twists the facts of what really is going on there.

I used to know a little about Venezuela. It's home to Angel Falls, one of the largest falls in the world, and is a large exporter of oil

LoL. I hope that I will not hurt your nationalistic feeling... so if you are that kind of nationalist, you shouldn't read my answer. introduction: 1. any nations that breach the free will of individual wanting to do something not harming the interest of anyone but eventually the parties of the contract are EVILs. 2. any nations that pretends to be "christians" and raise taxation under coercion are EVILS. 3. that if you trade your soul to serve with the TBTP (the power that be ), you live a luxurious life with no restrictions. 4. that all socialism ends their ass full of shit. 5. that a nation isn't a land (aka it can't beautiful it wasn't created by the nation), or a people (as most of human beings having a soul left, support the free will of others) and as such is only a legal framework. specifically about venezuela : a violent shithole, devote of respect for contractual law, bent on enslaving anyone that reside there for the benefits of those serving the regime, with girls full of plastics, where it is impossible to use a plant of the earth without going to jail unless you do it with the regime acolytes... in short : you are with the regime it's "paradise" on earth, you aren't it's hell. my question to you, did you had enough to eat? do people die of hunger there? what did lead to such a failed state? do the people there really believed that socialism was the answer, ie taking by force (or threat) what those that produce have and then redistribute it to themselves meanwhile thinking that those producing will continue to do so?

Exactly, if you're not with the regime you're screwed. In the last few years hundreds of thousands of professional and capable venezuelans have fled the country looking for a better life. I have friends in Australia, Spain, Italy, Panama, Peru, Chile, Argentina, USA, Costa Rica, Canada, Mexico....you name it. Families have been separated by this, it's really sad. To answer your question, I had enough to eat but every day finding food and basic stuff like toilet paper keeps getting more expensive and difficult. I don't know if people die of hunger but I can assure you that they're not having a good time (at least those in the long queues to buy food). http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/13/us-venezuela-food-idUSKCN0QI28D20150813What lead to such a failed state? I think that's a topic for another thread but it surely began when Chavez took power in 1999. The result if proof that people really believed that socialism was the answer, sadly.

Hello pilscoop, thank you very much for your reply. I am sad to ear those story of exile... however it's better to live in exile that to face the last move(s) that such regimes do before collapsing... I have lost hope with the socialites, I like the term: muppets. they always believe in fairy tells... even if it's clear that it always end in a nightmare, only it's real life and there is no wake up call, but to exile for those aware. if I may ask, why didn't you join the regime and have too the "paradise"? and if I don't abuse, do you know people that do collaborate with it? how do they feel about themselves? do they have a soul still? why did you wait "so" long? thank you again, I wish you the best in Columbiana.

Their government likes to seize private property and got massive inflation and crime rate as a result. So, I think this is where Germany is headed, just without the nice beaches and tropical climate.

What do I know about Venezuela?
1. The level of corruption in the state is incredibly high.
2. There is no extradition treaty between US and Venezuela.
3. It's a beautiful country with nice simple people who just don't understand that the politicians deceive them every time.

Its very beautiful country with handsome people. Economy is not going great at the moment. Govt has to be people oriented. They are there to serve people but they trying to serve themselves. Hope everything will be alright in few years. Best of LUCK!!!

That is an over-exaggeration. It is true that the Venezuelan government had cancelled the privatization of the local petroleum assets and large ranches. Many of these properties and companies were fraudulently privatized during the 1980s and the 1990s. Most of those who benefited from this were the American citizens. The local Venezuelans were opposed to this privatization process.

why don't they switch to the $ or BTC? then copy the us constitution and bills of rights, change the united states by venezuela... and watch their country bloom? I don't get it. Ahh yeah, national pride... it's impossible to make a better wheel than a round one...

I didn't join the regime because I first: I don't agree with them and second it's not like you get isolated from everybody else, you still suffer from the shortages and the violence in the street, etc etc. Also you would have to be very well connected to have a significant improvement on your quality of life. The "people" who support the regime only get insignificant handouts and a promise of a house or a better future, and that's what keeps them waiting, hoping and supporting this disaster. I know some people that support the regime, they're brainwashed. They notice the bad things but just blame them on something else or look the other way. It's really difficult to try and make them take conscience of the real situation, they're like zombies it's really frustrating. Why did I wait so long for what? To leave the country? I'd say I still had some hope, but every year that passed it kept getting worse and worse. I just got to the point where I coudn't stand it anymore and just left. Thanks for the good wishes
