Is it possible to run an Antminer S3 and Desktop PC on the same PSU

I am short on power supplies and was wondering if anyone else has tried this out.

I have a PCP&C 750W with a single 12V rail capable of 748W.

Do people think that this is a viable option?
I should probably leave more breathing room but I'm more concerned about any issues that may arise from mixing the consistently high load of the miner with the sporadic load from the PC.

I might try that starting the S3 at enough of an undervolt/underclock to get it down to 200 watts, then SLOWLY bring it up faster.

I will recommend it? NO, dont know how it will affect to your s3 on that thread seems like they did it, but your PSU will suffer a lot working at 100% everytime and as you said is your desktop PC.

i would not advice to exceed the maximum power of your cpu, actually i would stay below 700, it's not a good thing to reach the maximum output, your psu will be stressed all the time, and at the end it will be damaged

I would agree what OP said is just to close to limit.  It would have to be OC'ed and even then most likely running PSU high on watts.  What brand of PSU is it op?

But most likely you can get a decent server PSU here on the forums and run it from it.

If the power in the S3 fluctuates then you're stuffed. That's just it.
The S3 gets too hot since it has to be in your PC case due to short wire requirements that will up your watt count on the S3.
Personally, just get a different PSU, it's so cheap at my local PC shop, I don't know why you would risk it.

I'm guessing he is talking about S3 outside of PC case.  In almost all cases there would be no way to mount a S3 inside of it. 

If you stripped it and just had S3's inside then possibly, but not mixing computer components and S3 at same time in case.

It depends what you will be doing with the PC. The wattage you specify for the components are all max draws. You will need to be mining monero on the CPU, an altcoin on the vid card, and torrenting terabytes of data a month to start to draw that kind of power.

But do note, the components will surge when booting up from cold. However, the S3 will not draw 300+ W immediately when turning on because it will be initializing its runtime and waiting to receive work if mining a pool.

While you definitely can do it, keep in mind that PSUs are most efficient on 50-70% load. And if it is a cheap PSU, working it at 90%+ will wear it out a bit faster.

I already have 8 S3s running on 2x 1300W EVGA Supernovas (4 each), split across two 15A circuits. It's silly to pick up a PSU for a single unit so I was just wondering how to make use of the 9th effectively.

I have chosen not to run it from my computer PSU as the risk of overload means a hard power off, not something my PC and VMs like very much. Also, I'm already riding 12A on each 15A circuit so I figured it's best to quit while I'm ahead.

 Was, to be picky - now it's a brand selling other folks PSU under it's own name.

 Used to be arguably the best ATX-type PSUs on the market, with a wide range on "how cool or how quiet" you wanted your PSU to be, but they ended up selling out some years back and I think the brand has been bounced around a couple times since then.

I did this on a G2 750w. I personally would not trust any other PSU but the G2 right now to work safely at max load. If you have a wattmeter, you can check what your actual load is. Mine was actually lower than expected. I'm mining and gaming on my GPU at the same time and its a power hungry r9 280 and i wasn't even hitting 400watts.

With the S3 i was doing 700watts and the PSU can handle spikes no problem.
