No, this is stupid idea. Self moderated threads is only used to impose censorship.
It should be not possible to create self moderated threads in the first place.
If someone is spamming your thread with useless posts, report this to mod, he/she will be banned.

Why is there a self-moderated thread in the first place Huh

Every single experience I had with it wasn't good.

why? self-moderated threads is only useful for deleting posts. and 1 person should be enough for that.

it have plenty of uses. to stop trolling, spam, derails, flame wars, etc.
some people just delete every replies once they are finished with the thread though.

It wouldn't be a bad idea for companies that have several staff members who could edit the op of a thread etc or threads like the Signature Overview one where a few trusted users could keep it up to date.

Most people don't like self-modded threads and I tend to not even bother posting in them but they are useful in some situations and for deleting posts you deem as spam from trolls or whatnot but on the flipside they can be abused by deleting any posts someone just doesn't like (and that's why I don't usually post in them). If self-modded threads are allowed (which they currently are) I can't see an issue with this suggestion though.

Well, if you see it like that, then his suggestion is pretty good. Smiley

For me, the only instances my posts were deleted in a self-moderated thread was when when I raise concerns that the OP doesn't like. like say warning a pretending-to-be-something-else-ponzi-scam or even suggesting escrow.

Well, then, how about newbies can't start self-moderated threads? Grin

When I make a thread, why should I allow others to moderate it? I open sales threads and people post useless replies in my thread and here the self moderation option comes handy but if others start moderating it, imagine the amount of chaos on the thread where I will be deleting their spam replies and they'll be deleting others and my replies.

There are moderators who are capable enough to delete spam threads and I don't want others to start doing the job of MODs.

I think the idea is that you as the person creating the thread can choose who to bring in to help you moderate.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

Personally, I don't see this idea being as bad as previously mentioned. I know in a thread I was fairly active in (Faucetbox Discussion) a self moderated thread was needed as their was an increasing amount of spam from certain members. I suppose on the flipside though, it could be used very effectively to censor negative opinions about your service. It is really a matter of trusting the OP of the thread, and if you didn't leave them a negative rating.

As hilariousandco said, this sort of feature could be pretty useful for things such as business' threads where there are several users which could moderate the thread.

I personally totally support the idea and it should be optional of course . Let's say Mitchełł left the forums or simply don't have anytime anymore , someone else could help him moderate his topic : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0 . Same goes for Maroctheminer for his List of escrow and so on ... there is planty of important things around the forums that need to be moderated daily or from time to time . +1

So an authorization from the topic starter should help in moderating a self-moderated thread? That would be pretty nice feature to have. Before anyone else apart from the topic starter could begin modding, they should first have a permission from the TS, Pretty neat, especially if you're running a business wherein you have several members on a team.

Exactly. Also, plenty of signature campaign threads are created via the account that the company owns, but if a signature manager is trying to edit contents in the OP, they have to contact them to edit it.
