What Debate? NXT Votes Unanimously to Add Coin Mixing Anonymity
NXT, the finance 2.0 blockchain platform, has voted unanimously to implement CoinShuffle, a coin mixing anonymity technique to NXTcoin and other 'Monetary System' tokens. Implementation is expected on the next major release.

Looks good.  I suggest starting a dark market for NXT, just like what DPR started for Bitcoin.

I know it's shady, but this is one very good use case for cryptocurrencies.

How many of you can actually get your NXT to function? I haven't been able to synch with the blockchain for like 3 months. I know, it requires a very specific, antiquated version of JAVA to run. But NXT devs effectively killed NXT by releasing a neverending flood of updates that never seemed to solve some core problems. Like getting the NXT client to work.

I've done it a few times recently on both Windows and Linux and it requires a recent Java version. Not sure on the exact number but it's Java 8.

The readme or whatever in the while mentions that you need an updated Java version too. So it sounds plausable that you just need to update your Java and make sure your client isn't from last year or whatever. The NXT devs do release tons of updates as you say, so compared to other cryptos where you probably only ever need to download one wallet it's not too surprising that some people aren't used to that. But the SuperNET 2.0 liteclient should go a long way to offering a better user experience for NXT and other currencies involved.

The NRS NXT client has been really good in my experience, but the one issue I've had is the slow downloading of the blockchain. So when I don't want to wait I just download the blockchain bootstrap that someone kindly hosts on Dropbox.

Problem is, I've installed, uninstalled, pounded my fist on my head over 3-4 different versions of JAVA, and none of them seem to want to download the NXT blockchain. As a matter of fact, I always only see blocks being _added_ to the blockchain as I am waiting for the download to begin. There's nothing more frustrating in the world. I've tried the latest version of 8. I've tried the first version of 8. I've tried everything in between. Nothing seems to work. All I know is apparently I have to have 1 machine for NXT and another for NEM.

Wierd....I've never had real issues with getting Nxt to run on either Windoze or Linux.
Just need the latest version of Java installed and after that it's usually a piece of piss.

But, lets start at the beginning: N, what OS are you running ? 32 or 64 bit...?
And have you installed Java 8 ?

EvilDave, I know you are a NXTpert. So just tell me. I am running Windows 8. Should I download the 64-bit version, and which version of Java 8 should I install? The most recent one? Didn't work last time but I can try it again if you are insistent it will work.

You guys can keep defending NXT all you want but you are making it impossible for the common nerd to use. That makes your system usable for about .0001% of the population.

Keep it simple(r). Stop with the constant flood of updates.

Well, we are getting better slowly.Take a look at this proposal :
https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/%28marketing-business-and-development%29-the-tennessee-project-fundraiser/
Part of the Tennessee initiative will be an emphasis on lite/web wallets.

Anyway, back to the supporting.
There is now a Windows installer for Nxt:
https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-5-15/
You need:
h***://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/downloads/nxt-client-1.5.15.exe
This will run a Java check, and automates most of the install process. If you haven't tried it already, give it a shot now.

Win 8 64-bit and Java 8 is a very common configuration....it should work.

Forgot the Java link : a remove and re-install can sometimes help:

Ehhh....there is, somewhere, a FreeMarket lite version...here:
https://freemarketlite.cc/
and some more FreeMarket info round here:
https://nxtforum.org/freemarket/

The answer is, yes, I hope so.
FreeMarket isn't Nxt core, it's an external project, so my knowledge of FM doesn't go much further than that.

I agree it's a pain but it's still in development, at this stage there's probably no much reason to use it but for testing purpose. It will take more time but at the end it's going to be integrated into the SuperNet project and it will have arbitration, escrow, full privacy, feedbacks and prices in fiat money. Probably by next year, after SN has launched. I have a good chunk of Freemarket assets and I believe it will give OB a run for its money...

OK thanks Dave, I do appreciate the response. I will keep my NEM machine separate from my NXT machine -- the differing versions of Java they require render them incompatible for the moment.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java several times already. But I will try your advice and install the nrs release you are recommending.

I was about to bring my hoarde of horseback archers over to your place but then I saw this post and now we're just camping in the fields outside your house. We're nomads so we'll probably move on shortly, no need for alarm.

No, I didn't. I uninstalled and re-installed both the latest NXT client and Java 8 64x with no success.

I can get NEM to open but you have to open some Java programs (NRS and NIS) to get the wallet working, ala NXT.

But my NXT just never adds any new blocks. I don't get it. It says I'm connected to peers, the "run" program is whirring away but nothing ever actually happens.

NXT is fuct. The price says so. You guys should try harder to get your shit together.

One of my computers took about 2 days to fully sync, but it doesn't constantly update in the Status window.  I actually went online to ask around and see if the NXT blockchain was stalled, but then I looked again and it had finally changed.

You have to leave it alone for a couple of hours, then come back and see that the date has changed from "Wed Jan 8 15:50:42 EDT 2014" to "Mon Mar 10 20:13:05 2014".  That's how you know it's making progress.

Maybe yours really was working, but it just didn't look like it.

Besides, you can just use a name and password at wallet.mynxt.info without having to download or sync anything, or use a similar online signup at trade.secureae.com
