Started off with a jumper wire to kick the psu on and eventually ended up cutting the ends and splicing them together to take that out of the scenario. Cooler master 1000w feeding it by self. There are 4 wires coming off the psu feeding the miner. I've tried multiple combinations of ways to hook it up. Runs for about 3 minutes, long enough to establish a connection and get to full speed then dies. Psu light turns red compared to green.

update: now its not even running. with the miner unplugged, the psu turns on and functions normally (green led in rear). on my other power supplies (corsair) there are individual wires coming from the psu that you must plug both ends in. on this cooler master, there is a big wire harness and you plug your wires in as needed. i know on the miners you cant run your cables but in single direction but i dont have the option of knowing whats what with this psu.

Did you try a different PSU? Coolermaster is rarely a brand you want on any electronics. Its quite possible that it could cause the miner to crash or damage hardware. Its also possible your controller just went dead.

OP do you have a link to PSU.  But any 1000 watt should not have a issue.   Might check with COOLERMASTER support as going from green to red does not sound good.  Check the splicing honestly that was a pretty big mistake on a ATX.  You should have got a switch.

But they make some really good cases.  But I have not  ever used their PSU's.

For starting an ATX psu, if you try another, make sure to connect the right pin. Its typically the greenwire and you can ground it with any black wire. If the wires are not color coded, just connect the 3rd and 4th pin.

The wires are always at the same place, you can know which side is which by looking at where the clamp is;

@Sixt5

Some psu's won't give you full amps on their 12V rail -> as long as it has no load @ 5V. So connecting anything to its 5V rail, can solve your issue (like a fan @5V, a cd/dvd/hd drive or even a resistor).

Edit: How to

Hmm i'm getting 3v at idle and 0v/0a when on. I'm not sure its supposed to carry energy. If i connect green + a different ground i get 12.85v though. I'm not sure the green wire is supposed to feed power? You just need it on so the big rail will power on the PCI-e's.

Afaik its just the On Switch. You should check the voltage at the PCI-e, not the on switch.

all four pci6 pins read normal. 3 grounds and 3 hots per cable, hots being 12v.

i've tried this with an s3 as well with the same results so it must be psu related.

If they stay at 12v under load, the problem isint the PSU. But you really only have a single PSU anywhere in your possession? That would let you quickly troubleshoot whats the bad component here.
