So is BYTE IOTA's biggest competitor
Which is better?  Shocked
I'm not sure Byteball is a competitor at this point:
Byte exists exclusively in cryptoland, has a dev team of 1 or 2 and mainly speculator users, but it's on exchanges.
Iota has a Foundation of 15 members, Core Dev team of 5 (that we know about), and dozens of business partners as well as mainstream conference presentations. But because it's not on crypto exchanges, some people think it's on par with Byte.

IOTA and Byteball are apple and orange. They are very different and are not comparable. IOTA is targeting the IoT payment market while Byteball is targeting the financial assets (such as stocks, bonds) trading market as mentioned in its website. Their transaction validation systems are totally different. IOTA uses the users(transaction makers) as the transaction validators while Byteball uses the witnesses as the validators. In IOTA the transaction makers and validatiors are same party while in Byteball the transaction makers and validatiors are separte two parties. IOTA used Tangle as its distributed ledger while Byteball uses its own different ledger.

Can someone share an estimate how much IOTA raised? How much is the regular price (without bonus). And how much is it sold right now in slack? I just want an estimated view before joining there.

The ICO raised ~ 1337 BTC for 2'779'530'283'277'761 iotas, which equates to 0,48 microBTC / Mi

Current price is around 30 microBTC / Mi: http://iotaprice.com/

It was 6 microBTC / Mi not so long ago. And we can easily come back to that as long as this great project need a lot more time before it goes live on major exchanges )

IOTA promises 0 fees.

What is to stop someone from spamming gigabytes of tx data or billions of transactions a second into the IOTA DAG?

You have to do the PoW for the Transactions.
And anyway, spamming is good for IOTA, as every transaction confirms two other transactions. Right now with not so many transactions, the Community is forced to spam the Network. The more Spam, the faster the Network.

Yes, iota need spamming, the more spamming - the faster is confirmation times.
Please ask "someone" to start spamming gigabytes of tx data as soon as possible.  Smiley

As others have said, Iota encourages spamming, and thus discourages bad actors from spamming, because they are essentially helping the network by doing so. Tangle in many ways is the opposite of Blockchain. The more tx, the faster the network.

The PoW in IOTA is small enough for the users not to feel any burdens becasue they benefit from those transactions such as making money and doing business. But the PoW in IOTA is big enough for the attackers to feel huge burdens becasue to make impacts, the spamming attackers have to make huge amount of transactions like you mentioned in billions of transaction. The cost of the PoW of the billions or huge amount of transactions will be pretty huge for the attackers becasue it is pure cost for the attackers.

But there's anyway no benefit for the Attackers. Whenever they spam, they help the Network.

SERIOUSLY?!

WHERE ARE ALL THE SPAMMERS AND ATTACKERS!

"IOTA SPAMMERS" IS FAKE NEWS!

THERE ARE AND NEVER WILL BE!

DON'T TRUST THE LIES!

I BOUGHT IOTA BECAUSE I HEARD THAT THERE WERE GOING TO BE SPAMMERS WHO WOULD HELP ME MAKE MY TRANSACTIONS FASTER AND I WAS LIED TO!!!!

I WANT MY MONEY BACK SCAMMERS!!!!

lol. Everyone is more on the testnet rather than mainnet. If you invested without knowing whats going on then just never invest.

IOTA is the only coin that is building/developing BEFORE releasing into exchange. This is why its not on exchanges and not talked about much. When it is released it will be well developed and price will shoot out of the gate. This is the most promising piece of tech which is not 'blockchain'.

In the future, avoid buying something you haven't fully researched. The IOTA team has been explicit in its desire to keep speculators away for this very reason. Just wait to buy until IOTA hits exchanges if you feel so compelled to buy on a whim.

When will this project go live?

IOTA has been live for a long time already.

Its just not available on exchanges yet, but you can trade with an "escrowed exchange" on YDX slack,
get your invite here http://iotaexchange.com/ or ask anyone that already has access to the service for the invite,
you can find most people on the official slack channel also have access so you can ask there at http://slack.iota.org/

Beware of scammers. always confirm identity and whatever things gets offered to you on the chats with other community members.
