I'm brand new to all this bitcoin stuff and would love some directions to make a few dollars, like, when to buy and sell and which wallet to choose for my Android phone? Thank you! I can suggest that you use mycelium wallet. This is the best wallet for Android in an opinion of many people and I am using it as well. About second part of your question, I guess that you are talking about Bitcoin trading. Let me warn you right away That Bitcoin trading is very hard. This is a pure speculation and nobody really knows where will hit his thing go, up or down. With sports gambling, you at least have odds. Here you have nothing, only expectations that don't come true most of the times. Good luck!

There is already a thread about android wallets: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1208153.0For earning bitcoin, just check my signature... A android phone is a hot wallet. Be careful and don't put more then some spending money on it. You don't want it as your main wallet. Look into cold wallets. You want to learn about it. If you hold a lot it is very important.

Welcome to Bitcointalk. If you are still deciding which wallet to use ... Mycelium work best for beginner and advance user. I have been using Mycelium for Android for a year and there is no errors before. I will strongly suggest you staying away from browser-based wallet such as Blockchain.info as there are very vulnerable to online threats. Also, as a bitcoiner now, you should take great caution against online hackers. So be sure to install Anti Virus and Spyware. I believe you already have one installed - check out Avast if you dont have yet.
You may start earning some "dust" from faucets. My favorite faucets would be Weekend Bitcoin and Bitcoin Aliens. Also, do check out my site, bitrevenues. If you reside in the west, CoinBase might be the best choice for an exchange site. If you stay in the East (China), OKCoin is good. I stay in Singapore and I use OKCoin.
For a wallet, Mycelium would be the best choice for newbie. If you dont have smartphone, you can always use MultiBit. MultiBit was my first wallet and I never encounter any problem with it. I switched over to Mycelium a year ago because I want to have access to my coin whenever I am.
