Actually the VAT exemption happens because it's not a "real" currency I would say. However it's definitely a good announcement going forward because of its relevancy and the attention it generates about Bitcoin.

Congratulation for bitcoin who lives in EU Maybe we'll see other country says bitcoin is currency or legal in their country It's just matter of time before bitcoin is accepted everywhere This is just half victory for us. Still is very long way in the front of us until bitcoin becomes mainstream in Europe, real alternative to other currencies.

Still is very long way in the front of us until bitcoin becomes mainstream in Europe, real alternative to other currencies. It is just a half of the victory, but this was a necessary step for us to take in a good direction in order to get to that alternative status with other currencies. This move from the EU also gives me much hope that they will actually regulate Bitcoin in a fair way, if nothing then at least in the whole Europe. Very big news!

As I said in another post, it is great news for presenting Bitcoin to people.
When people stare suspiciously at you when you introduce bitcoin to them, you can show them a newspaper.
That alone is great!

You may have interchanged goods for currencies. Goods are subjected to be taxed--in this case, VAT--if it is bought by a consumer whereas currencies aren't. The only time that currencies can be taxed is when it is a capital gain or an income of an individual (at least in our jurisdiction.)

for the average joe it's amazing, but i would like to see america follow europe and do the same. but it will probably take a lot time as they use old fashion policies.

FTFY. US wouldn't follow suit ASAP, that's for sure. They like to monitor everything so that they can assure that all things are under their control. -snip- When people stare suspiciously at you when you introduce bitcoin to them, you can show them a newspaper.

Just don't let them see a bad news regarding bitcoin, as they woulf certainly raise an eyebrow together with that suspiscious look.

The news was unexpected and hardly believed possible just a few years ago. This is a great day for Bitcoin and will boost the economy around digital currencies altogether. Last but not least, it's very good for traders to know. Once thing less they have to worry about.

Good for EU traders at least, US laws still regard bitcoin as a commodity. If US followed the same path as what EU did, then I think there would be no stopping for rapid growth and acceptance.

it wasn't unexpected, they had announced it in june already, that they were to making a decision about it, and from what i can tell at that time they were already prone to do it they were only waiting for a confirmation and formalize it
