Anyone starting to sell GPUs?

I have 7 5870s. Just put one up for sale as the stock fan died (probably the 3rd or 4th card to have the same issue!) and replacing it with another fan isn't really worth the time/effort/money as with the difficulty drop in 4 weeks the card would only have made about 2-3 Bitcoin I rough estimated.

4. Coins generated by the machines I have running now cost me little/nothing --> makes sense to buy more cards with "free money"

My 2 satoshis on selling GPUs....

If you only want to mine bitcoin, GPUs will lose money as soon as the reward drops (about 3.5 weeks). So the only reason to hold on to your GPUs are for mining alt coins (unless you rig is your heater.) alt coins is risky business all that power consumption could be for nothing when the coin dies several month later. Then again, maybe it's the next big thing and really takes off in a year. It all comes down to whether you like to gamble or not. I know I do, that's why I'm still building GPU rigs.

For anyone that's interested, I am still buying used GPUs.. I need to fill out the rest of my PCIe slots. Hit me up.

Just for the hell of it. 5870s are awesome, although now I wonder if I should have gone for 5970s but then I'm not sure if the 1200W PSU I'm using would support 4 x 5970.

Just for the hell of it. 5870s are awesome, although now I wonder if I should have gone for 5970s but then I'm not sure if the 1200W PSU I'm using would support 4 x 5970.

I just invest in more Mhases the rest is hobby as making expesive rigs is just for fun, but not neccesary i need more coins in my wallets thats all that counts for me. I see lots of reasons that ASIC is a scam but i could be wrong we will see..

I've never had any ROI on all the other computer stuff I've put together in the last 18+ years either.  Granted this machine is a bit more 'special purpose'. If the litecoin/bitcoin ratio holds (big IF), then the GPUs will help pay for it, other than that it is certainly an extravagance. I have ASICs on preorder (from BFL and bASIC) too so we'll see how that plays out.

Ouch, yeah I run 4x 7970's all watercooled, I don't necessarily have to deal with the noise, but my room gets hot XD. I live in Houston, and it still feels like Summer here.. Hopefully when the cool air comes in, I can use my rig as a heater .

a 5970 only gets like a US dollar a day worth of coins at a modest electric cost. in < 20 days the halving will make it $0.42 a day or $1.20

for those with free electricity. only $36USD/month

and soon as ASIC's 'hit' difficulty will make GPU's obsolete as soon as the next difficulty change (~within two weeks of ASIC's hitting)

in the end 7990 will be the most profitable in terms of electricity cost for mhash

Agreed, once ASIC's hit, GPU's will be worthless for mining.  But it doesn't mean there won't be a market for these old cards.  There's a lot more gamers out there than miners, and they're always looking to pick up an extra card or two if it's a good deal on eBay.

I for one have started to aqquire replacement parts for my gpus, in anticipation of a selloff, but I wont be selling any untill conclusive proof of "live" asics. Even if this means Im mining at a negative profit for a month or two, I feel like it's a risk I want to take.

So Im just basicly buying somewhat expensive bitcoins against my electric bill (3months from now)... and under the circumstances I might end up "winning" in the equation. If the profitability of my gpus falls below - (negative) 5$ a day I will be selling them off.

good plan. don't go in too much debt mining, otherwise its more worth it to sell your hardware and just buy the coins outright

Don't get that dude... get this... soooo much nicer for water cooling... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133194 - 200mm top fans... with plenty of room for radiators there. Also external slot for hdd / ssd.

If I were to do a WC setup, it'd be in a HAF 932. Not a huge fan of the over-the-top looks (I kinda like that BitFenix for that reason), but it seems to be the very best.
