It wasn't Embiid that made LeBron decide to join Philly. It was primarily JB. With the addition of rising stars Maxey and VJ, that has made his decision solid to go join Philly.
And yeah, JB, VJ, and Maxey will do the majority of the work in the regular season in securing a playoff spot, but with LeBron's basketball IQ, their offensive power may become better than last season.
You have a point, because JB is new to the team and he already won a championship and became Finals MVP. So LeBron is now playing with another proven star, and that makes the chance of building a championship team much higher. At this late stage of LeBron's career, where he is already making history individually, winning another championship would be a huge achievement.

But still, it remains to be seen. I don't want to get too hyped yet until we actually see how this team performs together.

They rank 16th defensively last season, not bad but not good either, so this should be the area they need more improvements if they want a real shot at the championship.

Knicks ranked 5th, while Spurs 2nd overall last season, but the Knicks defense become even stronger late in the season. So, defense do win champions.

The defensive side, im not sure if it will really improve. Maybe if they changed the coach or made some adjustments to the system, then we could expect something different.
But with the current setup, I would rather wait and see first before saying the defense will be better.
Am I the only 1 who thinks this Superteam is going to flop? On paper they have the NBA championship already won, but it never seems to work out like we think it will. We will probably see some explosive nights from the offense where they cannot be stopped and score 120+ but I just feel like we are going to see a lack of consistency and defense. They might score 120 and give up 121.

They needed to adjust to the new environment if they can co-exist they will be able to make a run in the playoffs, also they need to be healthy, if they can do both then they will have a chance, they have a target on the back at the moment even though they are not in the regular season, teams that will be look for is Atlanta, Knicks, Cavaliers in the east and maybe a dark horse in the west we will be looking for at the same teams to battle it out in the west, east will be an easy cake walk for the teams last year with just a little drama because of a new team.

Still too early to say if they are going to flop or not, obviously it really looks good but then we need to see if there will be a chemistry. Although the last super team that we have seen has flop, with KD, Irving and Harden in Brooklyn Nets.

But it could be very different here, Lebron just sign a 2 year deal, so meaning he could be just expecting that in short amount of time they will be champion or at least that's what the Sixers management is hoping. So in the first year alone they might figure it out if everything is going to work or not.

We cant deny that he had a great career and is already a superstar, but in terms of impact, I dont think its still the same as before.

The last time LeBron won a championship was back in the 2020 bubble with Davis. After that, his teams have struggled, so just joining another team does not automatically mean they will become champions. Chemistry also takes time. Normally it could take a season or even two before everything really works well together. Of course we are optimistic because we want to see LeBron succeed, but I dont want to expect too much yet.

Maybe after the first 10 games, we will have a better idea of how this team really performs with LeBron.

Perhaps more games, around 20 or even before the end of the first half, we might see the whole picture if every puzzle is fit for the Sixers or not. To be fair with Durant, Irving and Harden, it was really a disaster in the beginning, as Kyrie got injured and when they acquire Harden, he is not physically fit.

But here it's totally different, the Sixers with Lebron seems to be really formidable as they have the combination of youth and then experience. Odd man out is Embiid but we will see if he will be healthy or at least play more games with Lebron.

You’re talking about the Nets, right? Well, I think that team was a failure because they never even reached the NBA Finals, iirc.

They also lost to Giannis and the Bucks in the 2021 playoffs. That was the same season the Bucks eventually won the championship against the Suns. Poor CP3, that was probably one of his best chances to finally win a ring, but he still couldn’t get it.

But here it's totally different, the Sixers with Lebron seems to be really formidable as they have the combination of youth and then experience. Odd man out is Embiid but we will see if he will be healthy or at least play more games with Lebron.

Staying healthy has always been his biggest problem. Talent-wise, there is no doubt about him, but just being able to finish the whole season healthy already feels like a huge success. Maybe this time he will finally succeed. It was also reported that he is taking some of the same supplements LeBron uses, so hopefully that can help him stay healthy throughout the season.

Exactly, especially on a big man that does a lot of hard work on each game. Their heavy body and lot of physicality on the game create a lot of stress that built up when the players keep pushing on the regular season run.

This is always the problem of Embiid same with Davis that has fragile body. Unlike Jokic that usually rely on playmaking then attack an opening when he sees opportunities to penetrate the paint.

Jokic is just different, and thats why for me he is the best big man right now. He can easily put up a triple-double, and one of his biggest advantages is how durable he is.

Embiid usually plays by using his size and dominance, so sometimes his game becomes more predictable. Jokic is different because he involves the whole team. He can score, rebound, create plays, and even act like a point guard when needed.

Its kind of similar to LeBron because he can also run the offense like a PG. The question now is whether that style will work well with his new team.

Lebron task now is floor general or making plays as per coach of the sixers with that he can easily throw the ball to teammate with ease as long as he follows the game plan, the only problem with him sometimes is because of his high IQ he tends to break the coach play and put his play to be played by the team, this happens in the Cavaliers where is is the one making plays instead of following the design play, lets see how he behaves with the new team, is he going to play what is design or scratch it, with embiid he just need to make sure available in the playoffs putting the team at the middle of the pack in the regular season is okay, playoffs is the most important.

Jokic is just different, and thats why for me he is the best big man right now. He can easily put up a triple-double, and one of his biggest advantages is how durable he is.

We ca summarized it this way: Jokic - Unconventional center, while Embiid - Traditional center. So they are in contrast as what you have described, prior to Jokic arriving in the NBA, we haven't seen that kind of center that plays like a guard, and then making triple double. Only 1 of 3 players in the NBA that averages triple double if my memory serves me right.

While Embiid played like the last big center in the league, Shaq. Backs against the wall, pure isolation and then uses his power to steam roll his defense. He can also shoot from the outside, that's one difference between him and Shaq. But he didn't rely on that to score.

Comparing Embiid to Shaq, I find Embiid a bit soft for a center. I saw the last series where they were dominated by the Knicks, and he could not even be aggressive attacking the paint. He relied too much on his jumpers, and that made his game more predictable.

The Knicks big men did a great job putting pressure on him, and I dont think he handled that pressure very well.

So for me, Embiid is a bit overhyped. He definitely has talent, but I don't see him as an exceptional center on the level of someone like Shaq.

I agree, Embiid is soft compared to Shaq. Shaq dominated the paint really well during his time. If you're gonna ask someone to form a 5-man team, Shaq is automatically one of their choices for center. I don't think Embiid will ever be in that discussion. That shows Embiid is lacking as a center compared to Shaq.

Durability alone, Embiid is nowhere as durable as Shaq. But Embiid is really good, no question about that, but being good is useless if his availability is always a question. It's 3 seasons in a row now that he has played less than 40 games. If only he could stay healthy and at 100% condition, that could at least elevate the Sixers' chances to survive in the playoffs.

2001 was the last time the Sixers made it to the Conference Finals. With Brown and LeBron there, let's see if they can finally pass the second round.

Im just worried about what happens if Embiid gets injured again, either during the regular season or close to the playoffs. Even if he returns in time for the playoffs, there is still a risk that the chemistry of the team could be affected.

We have already seen how difficult it can be when a key player returns and the team suddenly has to adjust again. So for me, this is also something the Sixers need to manage carefully. But I dont think that should be blamed entirely on Embiid. Its also the coach's job. If Embiid returns and the team is not producing good results with him on the floor, the coach should be willing to limit his minutes and slowly work him back into the rotation instead of forcing things.

Thats already out of our control. We can only hope that he stays healthy.

Besides, Embiid is not the only big man who has struggled with injuries. Davis has also had a lot of injury problems, and he still managed to win a championship with LeBron. So maybe LeBron will bring Embiid some luck too. If they can stay healthy at the right time, maybe Embiid finally gets his first championship.

according to polymarket, the 76ers' chances of winning the championship:

you can see two big days for the 76ers. on one of them, the 76ers added jaylen brown to their roster, gaining a young and athletic superstar.

and the other was lebron, the king who stands above even the superstars. i don’t think anyone expected such major changes to happen so suddenly, especially lebron choosing the 76ers. i don’t think they’ll win the championship, but i do think that possibility will increase as the season progresses.

Do you still think that Lebron will have 5 more years to play for the Sixers? They need to win NOW or he will decline on his Player Option on his final year of the contract and might decide to just retire entirely. I don't see them winning the title as well, but they could compete against the likes of the Knicks, or even the likes of the Thunder and Spurs for the title. They don't have that much time to waste. They build this roster to compete as early as now.

Let's look at Lebron, and how he won the title on his last 3 teams though.
- When Lebron joined Miami, he didn't won a title on his first season, but he did it on the 2nd season.
- Same when Lebron returned to Cleveland. He also didn't won in the first season, but won on the 2nd one.
- It's the same scenario with the Lakers. Didn't won the first season, won the next one.

Now let's see if Lebron will break that pattern of him. Let's see if he can win a title on his very first season on a new team. If he can't win and he sees the Sixers could compete still for next season, he might opt in for the final year of his contract, and might decide to retire as a member of the Sixers.

RIP to Don Nelson. He was a hall of fame coach and a name everyone know who was following the NBA in the early nineties. He was born in 1940, won 5 championships and was the second most winningest coach in NBA history. He definitely left his mark on the game and will be remembered.

yeah. NBA world has lost another giant from the old guard school...
His final magic trick was definitely eliminating his former team Dallas, in the playoffs after entering as the 8th seed.
but west was always so tough that just one season later, despite winning 48 games, he missed the playoffs with the Warriors.

i will always remember him with this look.

of course, it was also special that he was Curry's first head coach in the NBA.

Rest in peace, Don!

He's 86 years old. I wasn't able to see his greatness as I am not in his era but reading a bit of him, being a 2nd for most wins in the history, that's real record man.

Don't worry about that, it's the team to worry about it. They have other 2 centers to replace him if ever that happens or sometimes, Lebron is going to play his role.

I have a feeling it will, because superteams today don't work the way it worked before. And yeah the NBA today has either lacking defensive efforts or it's just the players jacking up a lot of 3s. So, seeing a 120+ ppg team isn't impressive anymore. What impresses me is a team who can hold their opponent to under 100 consistently. I bet no teams can ever do that again in todays NBA.

Still a lot of people pick the Knicks over the current Sixers.
