Because cgminer is controller software to run ASICs connected to your PC. Your pc itself doesn't actually do the mining. You need to have mining hardware attached to your PC...

the latest and the last version that supports GPU is cgminer 3.7. Any versions that are newer are only support ASIC hardware. You can find 3.7 version anywhere with google. Alternately, you can use sgminer which supports SHA256 for GPU at the moment.

Mate, watch out your laptop. I am afraid, that even when  you get your laptop to mine, you will just destroy it after some time. Of course, you won't mine any bitcoins in the process since the days when you could have mined bitcoins with a laptop and GPU cards are long over.

If he use external GPU mining its ok nothing wil happen in his laptop but if he use the internal gpu it can cause your laptop hot and your display will be destroy because of the miner..  I think mining in gpu is not profitable for now.. Huh

for altcoin you need, sgminer, i used it plenty of time and it work like a charm, with the last amd and some old one better than the default cgminer 3.7

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0 sgminer v5, there should be a new version now, try it

cgminer no longer supports GPU and CPU mining, so you won't be mining on your laptop. It just controls external ASIC miners. In order to GPU or CPU mine, you will need to compile cgminer yourself to enable GPU and CPU mining.

As others have stated, CGMiner no longer mines using your CPU or GPU. But, before you go and find mining software that does, consider that your laptop will only mine between 20 and 200 satoshis per day.

I'd reccomend not mining with a device. Only with a specifically made chip, lest your device rot away it's GPU/CPU.

At least my trusty antminer's lasted me 2 years xD

looking for a signature campaign, dm me for that
