How would one get updated to staff or moderator position on bitcointalk. Does anyone know how this occurs as the administrators have to appoint them?

You have to see a shooting star during a red, full moon, then you become moderator.

Do you have to take a picture as well? Because I saw that the other day...

If that happens, it's either that particular person has a lot of debts to pay. Also, if such accounts were sold, theymos would know and could easily remove the mod status of that certain account.

None of these are requirements (except maybe the being fair one). I was made a mod as a Senior. The most important thing is how active you are in reporting. If you make a lot of reports with a high accuracy you would obviously be beneficial to the forum (providing there's no other issues (ie probably doesn't matter how many reports you make if you're an alt of a scammer etc)).

I've seen a Staff with only a Member rank. So point 1 is flawed. Reporting numerous posts with close to a hundred percent accurracy is I think the most important factor there, as it practices your judgment and the way how you would handle posts.

seriously, just keep on reporting those that you think needs to be reported and maybe if the Moderators think that they may need your help, they may consider updating your forum rank to any of those mentioned

Which one is or was a Member? Haven't seen any of those unless you're talking about the new forum devs which I think had mod status at one point. I think the only way you would get to be a mod under Senior rank was if we were desperate for a local one and you were the best fit. Also an accuracy close to 100% is not required. Think Theymos has mentioned anything over 60 is considered very good.

Considering the fact that a helpful guy like shorena, who has 5k+ reports with 97% accuracy still hasn't been promoted to a Patroller yet, I wouldn't expect anyone to be promoted to mod soon.
P.S: Another thing that I might consider an important factor would be Neutrality of that person(in the marketplace specially), IIRC QS was not promoted to Patroller even with a high reporting accuracy stat.

I was a member as well when I became a moderator, and I had ~50 reported posts back then. But there was a need for a moderator in the Greek board, so that's why I was promoted. BadBear once said that he had 1 reported post when he became a moderator.

I know people that have reported thousands of posts, and they are not moderators, so reporting posts is not the only requirement.

Does seeing an asteroid in the shape of the great pumpkin count toward becoming decorated as staff

So little back then. But that was when there were 100 posts a day.
I am only 3 as of now. So reaching 1000 would be a just as much as a coincidence as seeing all those in the above with in this past year
