How would one get updated to staff or moderator position on bitcointalk. Does anyone know how this occurs as the administrators have to appoint them?

You have to see a shooting star during a red, full moon, then you become moderator.

Roughly describes the chances. Wink

On a more serious note, report a lot of posts accurately and you'll be noticed.

Out of pure curiosity why would you want such an account? Sounds like a lot of thankless effort to me.

I hear they get paid, but not a lot.

Also, it seems like a good way to become a "trusted" member here since people will automatically assume that someone on staff is someone that can be trusted.

Staffs and mods are assigned when someone have reported a lot of posts correctly, and there are vacant places in some boards (however all boards have mods now, and no new ones are needed for now).
Also if someone stated that they wanted to be a staff, they will most likely mot to be assigned (as people would think that they are scammers demanding trust and won't give trust).

You might you have to do what hilarius did.  Hilarius reported like more than 10000 thread and got it 100% correct. Then he was noticed and become a patrol staff then promoted to globar moderator now. You can asked him for tip.  Smiley

The % correct is entirely up to the actionable mod though. My reports in some sections get straight up ignored so I don't bother with any housekeeping reports.

Not quite. On the second blood moon during your stay here, you either turn into a weremod or you don't. If you do turn you are deemed as worthy.

Depends on who is handling them. I handled quite a few of yours about a particular newbie.

Out of pure curiosity why would you want such an account? Sounds like a lot of thankless effort to me.
It is also possible that someone wants it for the wrong reasons (not saying that OP is, although any damage can be swiftly fixed by theymos). This is why becoming a staff member is not a simple process.

For new patrollers, not at all. There are 0 reports most of the time. There are many of us, and some are very active, thus reports get handled swiftly.

How would one get updated to staff or moderator position on bitcointalk. Does anyone know how this occurs as the administrators have to appoint them?

There will be a thread posted with appoinment of a new mod in forum which will ofcourse will be started by admin itself.
Dont worry all important announcements are made on time.

Nope , IIRC Lauda getting a Staff title and hilarious being promoted to Global Moderator was not at all announced by theymos.

you also have to offer up a sacrifice of a baby goat to the one true god theymos while pouring a rather expensive bottle of wine on the shrine a la' badbear Grin

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.

You have to report thousands of posts with high accuracy. Then mods will begin to consider you when there is an opening. Having a habit of helping other bitcoin users would help too.

Yup, and some reports I made are really off-topic and one-liners. I wonder why those were ignored? Anyway, repoeting is not needed if a mod is active in such boards (like Lauda and Cyrus, I often see them two handling some threads).
