I used bitcoin just for purchasing digital goods (like cloud mining/gift cards) and altcoins. I have never used bitcoin to buy any physical good (as many local merchants don't accept bitcoin Sad )
Also, I would use my bitcoins to do some little trades (like playing with the BTC/USD market and get some advantage when bitcoin goes down, or buying some altcoins and take advantage whem it rise).

Yes, I get paid in bitcoin. My use is in payment for my time and thoughts. I don't spend much because I don't have much and a lot of places near me (coffee shops and such) don't accept it yet.

Here's a link to a transaction volume chart from blockchain.info. This should give you a sense of how many "people" are using bitcoin. Link -> https://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions.

Used Bitcoin to bet online, invest in cloudmining sites and bought gadgets converting my btc to fiat as very few merchants only accept cryptocurrency in my area at moment.

I just wanted to know if you guys use bitcoin quite often in your life. Please give me some occasions where you have used bitcoin.

I don't use at all my bitcoins except the occasions when I think that using those is and investment which can bring me other bitcoins. This kind of occasions, until now, has been the investments in cloud mining. There were three times when I invested in such kind of sites. One will profits, one without profits and without loss and the third with loss. The overall result (fortunately) was to have the same bitcoins "invested". I tell "fortunately" because now I'm convinced that the cloud mining sites are mostly scam and I don't invest anymore there.

I use it daily... I buy coffee in the morning, and take-away at lunch and if I have a meeting in a pub, I will pay for a beer or two with Bitcoin. In the evening while I am surfing

the interweb ... I will tip good content with ChangeTip. I set aside a small percentage of my income to do this... If I did not use Bitcoin, I would have used fiat.. so it's

just the same. The biggest percentage of my Bitcoin is in cold storage and I never use that.  Wink The transaction cost for daily use, is much less than credit or debit cards.  Roll Eyes

My current use cases are :

# Converting each month a certain amount of fiat into Bitcoin to use it as a store of value.
# I send and receive money, to and from, different parts of the world a few times a week.
# I pay freelancers that do coding, designings, etc, for their efforts in Bitcoin.
# I purchase digital goods with Bitcoin, such as domains, servers, etc.

If investing is also considered a use case, then that too. Mostly every day if there is decent enough volume.

Yes I do. I have a long-term stash that I won't touch for a while. My goal is not until 2020. I also have a spending wallet that I use and pay with whenever I can. Plane tickets, hotels are among the things I use it for. For example, just this morning I donated to wikipedia and I did this just because they had an option for Bitcoin donations.

Of course, I replenish this spending wallet every now and then. I buy what I spent and almost always even a bit more.

I only use bitcoin as a form of stable retirement investment, to accumulate wealth that will not be dilluted by more and more billions of Euros/Dollars that are being printed each year. This is all Bitcoin needs to do for me right now. More than enough!

I normaly use bitcoins for investing mining and trading on exchanges. Also i use an small % on gambling. My big percentage of bitcoins are for savings and were saved in cold storage. I will use bitcoins for normal payments if there is any discount for doing it, but in my town is very difficult to find a cafe or shop that accepts bitcoins.

A few digital products. Next up it's a tablet once I've decided which one I want. If there were places that took it where I am I'd be making far more use of it but my options are limited.

I use Bitcoin for savings mostly. But I also like to gamble a little, just for fun, on Bitcoin gambling sites. I'd like to use it in other fields like buying products or services but I never tried it there so far.

I heard you can buy an Amazon digital gift card with Bitcoin and then use it on amazon to buy whatever you want. If someone here had this experience I'd like to hear if it really works, because this is really interesting way to use Bitcoin IMO.

I use it to buy giftcards for a low price
I pay people who freelance for me
And to have a online wallet that I know is going to take a lot to get hacked into

it's becoming a way of life now for many people in many different ways. Smiley

I am using bitcoin these days to fultill almost all of my mobile topup needs. And as i also run some faucets and design websites, bitcoin has become my first option to pay for hosting and domain purchases.

Bitcoin is still in very early stage. Not many people know about bitcoin. Image the price when 1% of world population start using bitcoin or other crypto currencies.

Nice view. There are possibilities of spreading bitcoin to around 2.5 billion people right now. Yes all the technical people will be using bitcoin in very near future as it is very much a easy for them to understand and to adopt bitcoin compared to anybody else.

i doubt 2.5B people are tech savy, if this what you mean, the majority are on mobile and they know barely how to use a desktop extensively

otherwise bitcoin should be much bigger, it should appeal to them

Bitcoin still has big room to grow, just wait & see many people will really use bitcoin in future.

Exactly, that's what i always say to my friends, bitcoins is like a baby ( well, yes, almost 6 years have been passed ) so there is lot of good and new things to come; There is a big margin to improve + new things to add to the use of bitcoin, for me is like an excited age Smiley

The more uses that bitcoin will acquire along the way, the more people will use it, is just a question of time, and it's coming...

Yes you can buy anything whatever you prefer with bitcoin. There are many electronic merchants who accepts bitcoin online. In the case if you're finding a bitcoin debit card then there would be more chances to buy a bitcoin in physical store itself.

By ordering the bitcoin debit card it cost me more expensive.
I am looking probably buying here in forum cheaper than from apple official store.
Anyway if i don't find anyone will hold the bitcoins as the price is increasing.

I don't believe it can be a viable solution to most people because of these restraints that the community has mentioned thus far. Until these problems with the way it is handled by the merchants it will never be a globally accepted way to pay for any material real world products.

Currently I know of two of hand: Dell and Newegg electronics.
As for them carrying Apple, I don't think they hold these products. They would have to be a licensed authorized reseller which is given out exclusively by them and I think the biggest big box store outside of their own are Best buy.
Maybe trade in bitcoins for best buy gift certificates. That might be your better option.

Well if i were living in united states that would be another story.
Apple has an offer for students which every laptop is $200 off.
I live in EU and the price are much more different (most of the times they don't exchange the dollar to euro, just put the € instead of $ Tongue)
Your suggestions guys are great, will have a look at them and i hope to find any which fits my needs.

Any time I need to buy something, if I can buy it with Bitcoin I will. Example: The watch Im wearing I ordered fro Overstock.com recently. This was my second ever purchase with Overstock, both paid for in Bitcoin. I also shop at Newegg.com often and pay with Bitcoin. I just ordered an external hard drive today.

I could be wrong but I suppose point of OP is to show that not many people actually use Bitcoin other than for speculation, i.e. selling it later for a (hopefully) much higher price. There is nothing wrong with that even if were its sole purpose. Of course it isn't its only function, but I would seriously refrain from buying anything with Bitcoin apart from other assets such a gold or jewlery maybe. Why? I mined my bitcoins and once bought a pair of GPU raiser/extension cables worth 20 bucks for 10 Bitcoins. Yes, it was around December 2011. Now I'm thinking how could I ever do that? And I was laughing before about the Pizza guy! Ouch! In 5 or 10 years, I'm sure you will regret having bought anything with Bitcoins instead of holding onto them. Perhaps it's different if the price is stable for a longer time and you buy your bitcoins with fiat right before your purchase.

Correct. I have seen a lot of past purchasers using the bitcoin feature on Newegg with successful transactions.
I don't know why they temporarily disabled this function on their site.
Could it because they can't evaluate a proper amount to charge due to the increase in value today?
Last I checked it was $349, almost at the $350 mark as a lot of people have predicted would happen today.

I get more and more often surprised when i speak to someone about bitcoin and the person i speak to knows what bitcoins are. Today i spoke to a relatively old man. I told him that i moved to bitcoin and he did not ask about it as if he knew. I asked back and yes, he knew about it. He had heard something about that in television. And he even had his investment adviser buy bitcoins for him, or let's say, he trades for him, trying to accumulate value by doing it.

Surprise surprise. Bitcoins fame is rising. Smiley

Bitcoins is a global currency, no doubt about that. It can be used in any part of the world. Exactly, any part in this world. But, still it is not so much famous in many countries and in some countries, people don't use it at all.
But, still as an estimate there are about more than 6-7 million people across the globe using it. It's used by people in majority in USA, UK and even Australia. But, btc is expected to expand in upcoming years.

I tried to search about it on google, and maybe bitcoin payment isn't available for all goods in there.
Here's the news that i've found : https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/newegg-bitcoin-only-deals-to-look-for-on-bitcoin-black-friday/

I can't find really accurate news or updates, so better see their response.

I think its because Newegg sells through other merchants as well as from their own stock. I assume they can only accept Bitcoin for their own goods.

Every day I use Bitcoin to keep a portion of my savings secure.
This is what I kind of do with bitcoin, which is to just let it sit there.  I've come to the realization that bitcoin is best used as a store of wealth than as a currency, much like precious metals.  There aren't many merchants accepting bitcoin (well, nowhere I shop accepts it), and using cash or credit/debit cards is way, waaaay easier.  I think it's definitely failing as a currency and there's no need for it to be one.  Why go out of your way to purchase bitcoin with fiat just to buy something in bitcoin?  It's unnecessary.

I use bitcoin to do online shopping. I buy computers and hardware components with bitcoin whenever I can.

Example ASIC stuff is very rare to buy/expensive in Finland.

-snip
Currently I know of two of hand: Dell and Newegg electronics.
As for them carrying Apple, I don't think they hold these products. They would have to be a licensed authorized reseller which is given out exclusively by them and I think the biggest big box store outside of their own are Best buy.
Maybe trade in bitcoins for best buy gift certificates. That might be your better option.

I just checked the Newegg website to try to buy a Macbook.
And seems that they do not accept now bitcoin, maybe they have any issue?
See this picture: only bitcoin is not available to make purchase:

I am pretty sure they have some temporary issues! I haven't seen any announcements anywhere that they are dropping Bitcoin as the payment method!

If anyone has any news or updates, thanks for sharing! I will shoot an email to their support, let's see what their response will be.

I assume they can only accept Bitcoin for their own goods.

how many people really use bitcoin .I can,t guess about it. I  hope maybe one million above now using bitcoin but now you can only guess not can say about bitcoin how many people really use bitcoin

Virtually now it is free to use bitcoin for whatever purpose you want. It is sure that there are some big stores/services which did not start using bitcoin yet but there are best alternatives of that stores/services , which are much better then any other, Nowadays I am using bitcoin for all my transactions and it is much convenient for me to receive and spend money in bitcoin.

Most are only being used by traders to profit. So the real usage is low as compared to the volume in the exchange sites. Bitcoin has yet becoming a major payment option.

I just wanted to know if you guys use bitcoin quite often in your life. Please give me some occasions where you have used bitcoin.

there aren't that many people who are really using bitcoin. because there is not enough places that accepts bitcoin and in some countries there is even none.

i have only used bitcoin to buy altcoins and that is just an alternative way of investment and not really a usage. but if there were places even online that accepted bitcoin directly i would do my online shopping with bitcoin at least.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

When you compare the number of people who has using bitcoins to those who are not using, those using bitcoins are few but their number is significant. Personally, I use bitcoins to buy airtime for some cellphones, pay for online services, exchange for fiat and even use them to lend to others.

Bitcoin gave the power to people to act as bank institutions, lending and borrowing money around. There are plenty of activities one could do using bitcoin instead of just holding it.

But those who REALLY use them is definitely way less. Most are just trading them for holding and profits after converting it back to FIAT but those who really purchase items, pay their bills etc are only a few.
