Bitcoin Poker Site Operator Gets Probation and $25,000 Fine

Brian Micon, professional poker player and former operator of bitcoin poker site “Seals With Clubs” has been sentenced to two years of probation and a $25,000 fine. Brian Micon was facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Micon, 37, fled to Antigua with his family following a raid on his house in February by the Nevada Gaming Commission.  Following his departure, Nevada regulators issued a warrant for his arrest in the first bitcoin-related online gambling case in the state’s history.

Brian Micon decided to return to Las Vegas and face the charge. As a result of a plea deal that was reached with Nevada prosecutor, Micon had to surrender 3 BTC, $900 in currency and some computer equipment that was used in the operation of sealswithclubs.eu.

That's fucked up. I know Micon from here in SealswithClubs thread. He's a nice guy, I read his story, it's very unfortunate about him. Despite US law system is more fair than others it still has flaws, like this. I hope he'll be alright.

I am not familiar with US gambling regulations, but I suppose you can't operate any gambling service online without proper license?
Or you can't operate bitcoin based gambling at all where your base of operations is America? Why did he do that in the first place?

Yes thats correct, he was not operating it, but was a spokesperson forr the site. But obviously if he can;t prove that, then the US government won't really let him be one.
I also believe this is old news.
