How can people buy and sell reputation on this sight? I'm not asking because I want to buy one myself, but all one has to do is look and see when the account was created. For example there is a "hero" account that was started 7 months ago. If someone could explain the reason for such accounts? I admit, I've no interest in bitcoining, mining bitcoins or tricking others out of theirs. I have a Virox account that I started ages ago and that is where I purchase my bitcoins.

Which account earned Hero in 7 months?
To my knowledge that's impossible. It takes 480 days to earn Hero. I'm sure Theymos and admins can set activity levels if they want / need to so maybe some special deal was made for someone serving in a staff role but not called "Staff" or "Admin".
It's hard to tell for sure unless you provide the name.

A hero account needs at least 480 days of activity. So a 7 months hero account is impossible.
Many user does not want to work for their reputation but they rather buy a old and established account with a high rank.

Isn't that exactly what I said? Please try to keep your posts constructive or you'll lose that privilege to be apart of a signature campaign. Please don't ruin it for the rest of us!

Well, check this out: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1247903.0;topicseenA newbie called "harryploppers" is selling a Hero account with 540+ activity. THAT is how you do the 'impossible'.

There is no indication that that account was became hero in 7 months. You have confused reputation (trust/feedback) and rank. An account increases its rank by increasing its activity. Activity is gotten through posting in each 2 week period. You can only earn 14 activity every 2 weeks, which is basically 1 activity every day. Feedback, trust, or reputation are all the same thing. That is earned by being trustworthy, usually through trades but it can be for many other reasons. Accounts can be bought and sold, but trust cannot be (against rules) and activity cannot be as well. You can buy an account with some activity and thus some rank like Hero, but whoever owned that account in the past needed to post for at least 480 days to get the account to hero rank. You can also buy accounts with trust, but sometimes if it is known that the account was bought, people will remove their prior trust on that account.

I looked but couldn't find that account (several days ago I was looking) and you're probably correct. I conflated trust & rank.

I usually get the 502 gateway from Bitcointalk, no matter what page I try to reach.

Trade reputation is not forbidden, but you won't get positives that way and people will negative you if they feel that you want to buy reputation.
And account trade is allowed because there would be no way to stop it, and people usually buy accounts for signature campaigns, not because of their reputation

Ah. Now it make sense. I'm willing to bet that the people that buy such accounts are after the more gullible newbies. Like me. I mean after all, everyday one sees deals "too good to be true", on this site. And for peeps like me (who have no in with MS or any place thats similar) even a MSDN key beats what we had before. We see keys, codes, programs, etc on the cheap. Ripe for ripoffs. Sigh. Personally I don't mind losing $5-10 gambling on such. It's only money.

Those aren't reputations. Those are forum ranks. The ranks are as of below: Brand new: 0 Newbie: 1-29 Jr Member 30-59 Member: 60-119 Full Member: 120-239 Sr Member: 240-479 Hero Member: 480+ Legendary: 775-1030
Activity increases once per two weeks of active period. Meaning that you need to post at least one post in that period. You can certainly buy or sell accounts as they aren't regulated due to the difficulty but it won't be legit, post history, address would be all different. People won't trust you significantly more either.

I was wondering about that. Your rank cutoffs. It's interesting to consider what is on their minds when they buy those fleshed out accounts. And even more interesting what the people selling the accounts are thinking. So..., would it be possible to plaster the caution newbie sign on a user that has non-matching Hx & address etc? You might save a few newbies from their intended burn. Hey! I'm almost a Jr Member! And I've no idea why I'm happy about that...........

You can make more money in Signature campaigns on accounts with a higher level, enough to make it fairly profitable. You can probably buy a Hero Member for ~0.2 BTC, make 200-300 quality posts here and you've made that back with profit on top. Either that or the reputation is used to scam, though that is very rare as people don't really go by that. They go by the large trust indicator, which is a much better method.

How can people buy and sell reputation on this sight? Reputation=trust? If yes then it is not allowed (if someone do so then he/she will tagged with negative trusts). If you're talking about trading of accounts, then yes it is allowed here, but it is discouraged. For the 7 months hero account, are you talking an account which have potential activity, or the account have some activity points that it can reach hero in 7 months (i.e. the account have around 280 activity now)? If yes then that account would only worth BTC0.1.

But it is mostly used for signature campaign. With so many campaigns with little to no limits of posting in sections, people could buy those and spam. Since addresses can easily be lost and most don't reuse it, it is hard to verify the authencity of an account based on that. Most accounts are hardly used for scamming. It is very easy to tell the change of ownership by the posting styles and time between posts. Furthermore, accounts are too expensive to be used for scamming.

I don't think a hero member can be created 7 months ago.
If you try to buy/sell reputation on this forum you are likely to get negative trust on your account and you may also get banned, although I'm not sure about that.
Trade actively and you'll get reputation/trust naturally.

Sounds like sound advice. Except Neg-trust, Pos-trust seems meaningless on this site. When you allow members (such as Vod) to arbitrarily give out negs just because he doesn't like the other guys religion, politics, what he sells, whatever, whats the point?

No really I don't, most of what you said was in Klingon or something. It would make sense that the reason for these accounts are for something I'm entirely ignorant of. BTW why is there a wait time between posts? Oh oh, I think I just figured it out. Spamming. To stop mass mailing and such. Do I get a free BTCbitcoin BTC or something?
