Well, there's always Excel's method1 ... she gets up from bed, runs at full speed against the nearest wall, and gets knocked out until the following morning. Cheesy

1 - from the anime Excel Saga; I don't remember the specific episode, unfortunately.

EDIT: as for less extreme measures, it might help if you have a regular sleep schedule (and sleep in a dark and quiet room) - are you missing any of those things?

Drugs! Including Alcohol. Or watching something on TV. That pretty much shuts my mind down... oh and regular physical activity.

Well, usually if you have this problem, then you have to reorder you responsibilities. Smiley

The brain is like a Sponge, if you forgot to drain off, you will have a lots of problems including problems with sleeping. Here some advice from me if you like to keep you brain in great condition.

It doesn't matter in what time you back from work, always try to find a time to read something or listening some relax music that can restore you energy. Another thing that is definitely the best choice for every person is meditation. Try to meditate 10 to 20 min before you go to bed and you will never have problems with sleeping. Wink

You have to learn how to switch off your mind. Just lay yourself down in favourite sleep postion ,close your eyes and try not to think of things you do during the day.

I was going to do something today but I haven't finished doing nothing from yesterday...

One and a half year ago I had an car accident. Since then, i have big troubles to fall asleep. This steps helped me a lot:

- Dark room (no standby led's, switches, computers etc. Even the smallest amount of light can affect your sleep)
- Avoid led light --> No TV, smartphone or tablet one hour before bed time (led light makes you awake!)
- Open a window for fresh air (if you live in a cold place, cold air will help you get a healthier sleep)
- Drink something warm, like tea or milk (hot chocolate) right before bedtime
- Shut off every sound source (this can be in conflict with opening a window)
- No coke, redbull, coffee etc. during or after dinner
- No alcohol (You would be able to fall asleep, but with alcohol your sleep will not be relaxing for your body!)

If your problem is, that you can't "shut off" your brain and everything is flying around your head, close your eyes (and hold it closed) "with force". Try to tense all your muscles in your body and hold it for about 10 seconds. Then release everything, wait another 10 secs and repeat it a couple times. That will give pressure to your eyes and muscle, and if you release it again, you will feel really good (relaxed) and your brain will be a little more empty ;-)

But the most important thing is: Even if you can not fall asleep, your body will still rest and can fill it's batteries. The worst thing you can make is yourself angry about your situation. This will automatically void your chances of falling alseep.

Not enough sleep can affect your health in a big way! You will have a higher risk of getting heart attacks and your brain never will running "on full speed". Even your memory will be affected by to little sleep.

That's why it's never bad to go to a special doctor.

Get well soon!

Exercise earlier in the day helps me a lot but I've got really bad sleep issues due to sleep apnea and working nights for nearly two decades. Falling asleep usually isn't the problem for me, staying asleep is.

For me, it helps to listen to Yoga and Buddhism music. There is a ton of such music on Youtube and other video portals.

Cannabis Indica works the best. You'll be out cold an hour after smoking and you'll have a great sleep. You can grow it in your backyard and buy seeds online.
