IMHO you do win, and you do lose, that's how it should go.
BUT, the catch is, as many have mentioned, if you loose, you tend to think: "If I just spend a bit more, I will win (Since you know you can also win, not loose, as it is)".
AND you do not stop, if you continue loosing, still hoping you will win it back, until the last cent.

I would call it something like, exploiting a primal human urge, which many people, very very many can't just control.

Its called human nature. We all want to regain lost in very fast time, that how we think and react. Sadly in most cases we lose and then we got desperate. Some even say that gambling is disease and that is effecting brain (some medical studies) but in fact we enjoy gambling small time or big time. For some it relaxing for other and need to get fast money. In any case gambling is just something that our brain loves in the end.

yes that is very right to say that when we lose money in gambling we want to recover it and when we are making money, then we want to continue the winning and on both side we want to remain stick to gambling.

I personally gamble for fun only. When I win, I feel very excited and thrilled, and when I lose, I do not stress too much because I know how much I can afford to lose.
