I have been into gold and silver recycling for some time now.  I only do it small time when I have the available time and money, but I have been processing my own gold and silver for some time now.  I use computer circuit boards, old x-rays, electronic contacts, and more.  Just checking to see if there is anyone out there that has dealt with this or dabbles with this in their free time.  I would liek to go into business with this, but I do not see that anytime in the near future.

This right up my alley. I have been melting gold and silver down on a small scale at home.  I get gold and silver jewelry from tag sales then melt it down using butane torch. This works well enough on a small scale but i'm anxious to get into it on a larger scale.

I haven't tried computer gold yet the amount in computer parts seem so minor is it even worth it on a small scale?

I would love to hear your process of recovering it.

I have watched a documentary on recycling gold from old electronic devices. An old mobile phone contains more gold percentage in weight than common gold ore from the ground. One can extract 1g of gold from about 50 phones. A mobile phone recycling plant in Japan has been doing that for decades.

I don't believe it's profitable on a small business scale. It is a nice fun hobby if one can work out a cheap method to dissolve the gold deposits into a solution.

I mess with this on a small scale also.  I take computer parts and separate the components off the boards.  Then I use an acid mixture to dissolve the metals from the board.  Once I have a liquid form of the metals, I drop the metals out using another chemical solution.  The mixture causes the metals to drop in powder form, in which I melt down into a ball.  It is fun to learn to do, but you have to be very careful, I messed once and made myself sick from the smell of the mixture.

i like what i am reading, but where do you find old phones and computer parts, so you can extract the gold? how much do you earn for an invest amount of money etc? I would like to take part in this business but i need to cover the basic questions at first. Can you help me, i think that this is a nice opportunity to make some cash, and maybe increase your business to a larger scale. I wish you all the best to all of you who are taking part in this business Smiley))

I come across all the items you mentioned Via Tag/rummage/garage sales.  they practically give them away.  I also come across tons of computer supplies but i'm not sure if i like messing around with the "Acid" strategy like previously mentioned.  I wouldn't mess with that unless you have the right protection....I have read that the acid combined with certain metals causes toxic fumes and have a deadly effect.

Be careful.

There are a number of outlets for them  Contact school districts and they will sometimes recycle old computers and parts to a recycling company that will keep them out of the land fills.  You can also just look in the garbage on your local garbage nights.  When it is tax season, a friend of mine finds about 300 computers or so to sell me.  It is out there, you just have to look.

Because I own a pawnshop, we are constantly bringing in computers and electronic recyclables.  I even buy some of them.  With an old computer, I can recover about 5 dollars in gold from the boards.  So I purchase these old systems for 9 cents on the pound.  This way I do not need to go through the garbage, i have others doing it for me.
