Should someone make up a Bitcoin license plate site for all states and countries? Basically draw a world map with border lines, and have each border area be a link to popup the Bitcoin plate for that jurisdiction.

Summary of those know so far - if anyone likes to map make.

USA

BITCOIN

Florida - BitPay

Idaho - QuantumQrack

Maryland - Rassah

Nebraska

Nevada - Julian702

New Hampshire - evoorhees - Erik SatoshiDICE

New Jersey - shamoons

New York State - cablepair - bASIC scammer

North Carolina - Troll Toll

Ohio - LiteBit

South Dakota - AEonCIpher

Utah - Mike Caldwell - Casascius coin maker

Virginia - GlenBot

BITCOINS

New York State again, this time with a S - Yankee - BitInstant

B1TCO1N

Virginia again, this time as B1TCO1N by fruitcommander

BITCO1N

Ohio - runlinux

SATOSHI

New Jersey - theinfiniteidea

BTC 495

Michigan - Historic 1973 pre-bitcoin plate from lewicg

Australia

BITCOIN

Queensland

Western Australia - dadj

BTC 999

NSW - julz

Kiribati

BTC 3585

Betio Town Council - Historic probably pre-bitcoin, 1980s-2010 series passenger plate. Homemade and stenciled on a piece of steel. Unearthed by Phinnaeus Gage.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Meanwhile in Idaho...

How do you get a license tab sticker that says 2015?  And also bitcoin on the sticker?

I just paid for two years I guess.  Maybe not all states do that.  I even paid with Bitcoin.

Not all states are necessarily annual.

Typically, the year stickers have the license plate number they belong to if made for a specific plate, like when the plate is new, or when renewal is done by mail.  No one ever looks at front plates, so putting the plate number (or a code that can be queried in a database) on the sticker keeps people from updating two cars for the price of one.

I wonder if when Bitcoin is seen as a major nuisance by the US authorities could they revoke those plates stating that they are "offensive"?  Huh Undecided

North Carolina are already ahead of the curve with that, though only considering them to be in poor taste rather than offensive so far.

North Carolina - The NC DMV has rejected the application for the license plate 'BITCOIN' because it 'could be considered in poor taste'

That is probably the lamest rejection excuse I have ever heard...

NC has a warp definition of what is considered "Poor Taste".

I love Fiat! no.. wait.. only the cars - I love BTC! Smiley

Unfortunately you can't do 7 letters in my state - so BITCOIN was out. (But that would have been snapped up by now anyway!)

As for why 999 - well the more BTC the better right!?

A Fiat as in a play on fiat currencies, very good.

NSW Australia

Yes - and the Fiat was bought with fiat currency unfortunately, but I did ask the seller if he accepted Bitcoin.  He hadn't heard of it but politely said he thought it was interesting.
It was bought somewhat unplanned when I was out of town, and I had to drive a few hundred km back home to get the Fiat fiat rustled together... would have saved me a lot of travelling if he'd accepted Bitcoin!

Cool, thanks, have added it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=114040.msg1230829#msg1230829 so far just US & Aus represented, surprising that haven't seen some BTC type plates from other countries as yet.

You are nuts.// this ROCKS

Do you pay extra charge for custom plates in the US?

It varies by state, but there is usually some one time extra fee.
