...a few hours later...

I'm just wondering if it's because I have a text file with a few (!) wallet to search for that the expected time taken between percentages vary after 50%, 75% etc?

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

No, I search 25000 keywords, the percentage is just based on the total chance.
I found a 6 character address yesterday in about half a second. I tried again, and it showed 20 minutes for 50% chance. It's just a matter of being lucky to have the right string in the random addresses quickly.

I am wondering which card are you using to get such long vanities within a short time?

Is it the Nvidia GTX TITAN X 12GB DDR5?

I am looking forward to buy one card as I'm willing to find this prefix by myself: 1kingalt1

I've got two AMD Radon R9 200 / HD 7900 series cards with a combined search power of roughly 50Mkeys/sec

Heutenamos was asking about some phrases and shorena passed on the work, so just thought I'd ask.  I'm not about to start under cutting shorena, so if requests were to be sent to him and then they are sent out from there, I do have a suggestion for shorena farming longer work out if he's not able to do week ++ at a time.

Had a think about the farming work out for week(s) at a time work:  You ( shorena ) are contacted by a person wanting work that will take one or more weeks to solve.  You contact me to see if I am interested and I send you a Part Public key of mine which you generate a key with the prefix (something memorable ) for example... 1TL2o67 or 12o67TL (the latter I estimate to take about 15 mins at 11MKeys/sec to reach 50% mark)  You advise the person requesting work of this wallet address and they pay the full amount into that wallet.

You advise me of the wallet address and I confirm payment via http://blockchain.info/address/12o67TLetcETC and begin mining with the details provided using the third parties Part Public Key.  When I find the required solution, I send the found Part Private Key to you ( shorena ), you forward to the client who confirms it's validity.  You then send me the part Part Private Key for the 1TL2o67 / 12o67TL wallet and from those funds I then send you a small token agreed to previously.

for example...
You have reinvented escrow, very nice!
One suggestion though: get a shorter prefix, like 1Time. It's 30 times faster to find, you don't want it to take hours if the 15 minutes for 50% turns out to be unlucky.

True
Code:
12o67
was instantaneous even with the Part Public Key I used - I thought for the example I'd use something a little more identifiable with my own account instead of just

Code:
12345 or
1234567
1abcd
1abcdef

With a random generator I could have said

Code:
1TX4s4
1HGYti
1htbLL
19meDb
1bHcXM
1Wxn8J
17vYSO

which would leave the client clueless as to who was doing the actual mining.  I feel with a shortened moniker this would allay any concerns about a self escrowing scam being committed...

Starting with 1L makes it much easier to find. It gives me 22 minutes for 50% chance.

If you post a public key part, I'll make one for you. You can tip shorena a donation Smiley

Sorry for the late reply I was away for a while. The amount is about right, thanks. I have not yet gotten a public key though. Not sure if anyone else made the address for you in my absence? If so, let me know who so I can transfer the funds.

@Timelord2067

Let me rephrase to make sure I understood correctly.

Lets assume Alice wants a vanity address 1WoNDRLND (any case).
#1 Alice gets a price from shorena.
#2 shorena gets a public key from Alice
? Alice pays to <does not exist yet>
#4 shorena send Timelord2067 Alice's pubkey
#5 Timelord2067 sends shorena a prefix and public key for the payment address (e.g. 12o67)
#6 shorena generates the vanity payment address 12o67examp1e1a1a1a
#7 shorena asks Alice for payment to 12o67examp1e1a1a1a
#8 once payment is confirmed,Timelord2067 starts searching for the address
#9 etc...

While I like the idea to use a vanity address for this. I think a 2-2 multi-sig wallet (e.g. with electrum) would be easier. Either of us has the addresses, but we can only spend the coins received together. This would simplify things as I could give Alice a payment address right away.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

Have spent last few days pondering how to rephrase what I wrote above - You've almost got it I've adjusted the order to what I'm meaning...

Let's assume Alice wants a vanity address 1WoNDRLND (any case).

  • # 1 Alice gets a price from shorena.
  • # 2 shorena gets a public key from Alice
  • # 3 5 Timelord2067 sends shorena a prefix and public key for the payment address (e.g. 12o67)
  • # 4 6 shorena generates the vanity payment address 12o67examp1e1a1a1a
  • # 5 7 shorena asks Alice for payment to 12o67examp1e1a1a1a
  • # 6 Alice pays to <does not exist yet> 12o67examp1e1a1a1a
  • # 7a Timelord2067 is advised of the wallet address 12o67examp1e1a1a1a (but not given the corresponding Part Private Key for this address)
  • # 7b 4 shorena send Timelord2067 Alice's pubkey
  • # 8 once payment is confirmed,Timelord2067 starts searching for the address
  • # 9 Timelord2067 sends shorena Alice's Part Private Key that he found to forward to Alice
  • #10 Alice advises shorena that the Part Private Key works and is installed.
  • #11 shorena sends Timelord2067 the Part Private Key for 12o67examp1e1a1a1a

TBH I've only heard about electrum in about the last month or so and know even less about it other than two wallets can deposit and withdraw from a third wallet??
